In “Atlantis: The Lost Continent” Pal tells the tale of Greek fisherman Demetrios, who saves Princess Antillia of Atlantis, a civilization that looks like a combination of ancient Rome, Pompeii, and a Flash Gordon serial. Horror titles from the Archive Collection include “The Disembodied” (1957), “The Hypnotic Eye” (1960), William Castle’s “Macabre” (1958), and a rare TV version of “Jack the Ripper” (1988), starring Michael Caine and Jane Seymour. If you like musicals and have overdosed on “Singin’ in the Rain,” check out “I Love Melvin” (1953), which reunited Debbie Reynolds and Donald O’Connor in a charming Technicolor romp with an aboveaverage score. “Rosalie” (1937) features a Cole Porter score and a massive production Original poster art from ‘Atlantis: The Lost Continent,’ one of many vintage films available from the Warner Archive Collection. by Dennis Seuling How often have you wondered why a favorite or well-remembered movie is not available on DVD? Generally, DVD companies like to be sure there is a large-enough market to justify production and marketing costs. A title with limited appeal might not generate profit. Al Jolson stars in the talkies “Wonder Bar” and “Say It with Songs.” “Small Town Girl” (1953) stars snappy tapper Ann Miller in a surreal production number featuring hand-held instruments emerging from the floor -- a concept only Busby Berkeley could stage. The Warner Archive Collection also offers many pre-Production Code movies, when scripts, directors, and actors tackled strong subject matter, flirted with nudity, and laced their pictures with crude slang. Among these is “Madame Satan” (1930), the Cecil B. Demille-directed epic about a wife who teaches her errant husband a lesson in love. In DeMille’s motto of “Bigger is better,” the movie features an extravagant masked ball aboard a dirigible. Another pre-code gem is “Street of Women” (1932), starring Kay Francis as a fashion designer who discovers happiness in the arms of a married man until her kid (continued on Crossword page) Authentic Cuisine from Spain OPEN 7 DAYS • LUNCH • DINNER • COCKTAILS Available Sunday thru Thursday Noon-10pm, Friday until 5:30pm (Served with Spanish Potatoes) Choice of Appetizer Soup or Salad • Entree No Substitutions • Both Parties Must Order From This Menu • Not Available On Holidays Join us for Featuring: Opici Wines Tues., Dec. 7 • 6:30pm Speaker: Shanti Labetti Open 7 Days a Week • Mon-Thurs 11:30-10, Fri 11:30-11, Sat 12-11, Sun 12-10 $ 50 per person Global Import Manager, Opici Wines Call for reservations Sunday & Monday NFL Ticket on Direct TV Football Menu & Bar Specials Regular Menu also available HAPPY HOUR NOW OPEN AT OUR NEW LOCATION Right Across the Street! 96 W.
