August 18, 2010 THE VILLADOM TIMES II • Page 3 Ridgewood Proposal for paid Graydon parking dropped by John Koster The Ridgewood Village Council has scrapped a proposed ordinance that would have established fee-paid parking at the Graydon North and Graydon South parking lots. The decision had been reached before last week’s public council meeting, where two residents spoke in opposition. The proposal had been held over for further study after it was informally mentioned at a work session a few weeks ago, and the further study apparently concluded the ordinance should not be pursued. Councilman Paul Aronsohn strongly opposed the move, saying that families of high school students were already overburdened. Debbie Coniglio, a 16-year resident of Ridgewood and mother of school-aged children, urged the council not to approve the ordinance. She said that fees for all school activities had gone up so much that some parents had a tough time coping, and that parking convenient to the high school was needed for older students who had to tote musical instruments or sports equipment and didn’t qualify for school busing because they live within two miles of the school. “I would ask or implore you to let this go and consider other alternatives,” she said. Boyd Loving, a resident who had also opposed the ordinance, thanked the council after Killion said the proposal had been pulled from the agenda. As written – but not introduced – the ordinance would have approved permit parking at Graydon North and Graydon South, on opposite sides of Linwood Avenue across Veterans Field from Ridgewood Village Hall. The ordinance would have established a two-hour time limit at parking spaces in the Graydon North and Graydon South parking lots during the hours of 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, Sept. 10 through June 15. The ordinance would also have established a parking placard that allowed parking in these spaces without time limit restrictions.
