Enhance physical stamina with Silver Strength & Motion, zumba, and jazzercise; relax with meditation and gentle yoga; improve talents with the art of Chinese brush painting; or just enjoy table games with others. Art Institute exhibits Summer Show The Ridgewood Art Institute’s Invitational Summer Show will be exhibited through Aug. 28. The show features selected works by Ridgewood Art Institute member artists. On exhibit are representational drawings and paintings in oil, watercolor, and pastel. Beautiful florals, landscapes, seascapes, and figure paintings are already framed and reasonably priced. The Ridgewood Art Institute is located 12 East Glen Avenue, Ridgewood. ‘Festival of Lights’ trip set The Ridgewood Chapter #39, Order of the Eastern Star of New Jersey, has planned a four-day excursion to Wheeling, West Virginia for the “Festival of Lights,” Dec. 3 through 6. During the trip there will be an overnight stop at “Das Dutch Village” in Columbiana, Ohio for a dinner show and time to visit the shops; and visits to the Mansion Museum in Wheeling, the Festival of Lights, a tour of Wheeling, the Eckhart House, the Carriage House Glass Museum, the Hilltop Shops and Gardens, and the Good Zoo “Winter Fantasy.” Included in the cost of is $499 per person, based on double occupancy, attendees will have deluxe motor coach transportation, accommodations for three nights, three breakfasts, and three dinners. Reservations and a deposit of $200 must be made by Sept. 1. Membership in the Eastern Star is not required. Golf Outing to benefit YMCA The Ridgewood YMCA’s 37th Annual Golf Outing will take place on Monday, Sept. 20 at the Knickerbocker Country Club in Tenafly. All money raised during the event supports the Ridgewood YMCA’s Good Works Programs. Through its Good Works Programs, the Ridgewood Y meets community needs and serves everyone, regardless of ability to pay. Examples of the Ridgewood Y’s Good Works Programs include Rainbows, providing peer support for children who have suffered a painful family loss, and Living Strong, Living Well, a strength and conditioning program for cancer patients and survivors. The event will conclude with the annual Park Avenue BMW Putt-Off Contest, with a grand prize of a free lease on a new BMW. City directories topic at Genealogical Society Sydney Robertson, a Genealogical Society of Bergen County course instructor, will address the Society at its Aug. 23 meeting at 7 p.m. at the Ridgewood Public Library, 125 North Maple Avenue, Ridgewood. During the presentation, “Using City Directories” Robertson will discuss how and why city directories were created and what information genealogists can learn from them. Special Needs Soccer program open The Ridgewood Soccer Association has openings in its special needs program for children ages five through 14 who require the individualized attention available in a smaller group setting. Open to children in Ridgewood and neighboring towns, the program provides an enjoyable hour of soccer for players of all skill levels. A unique feature of the program is the participation by highly skilled volunteers from the Ridgewood High School Girls Soccer team who serve as mentors for the players. Whether a player is new to soccer or a seasoned veteran of the program, the aim is to develop skills, promote fitness, and emphasize the fun aspects of soccer. Clinics are run on Saturday afternoons in Ridgewood from Sept. 11 through Oct. 30. The cost is $60 for the eight sessions. Each player receives an RSA team shirt and soccer ball. Education foundation benefit now underway The Ridgewood Education foundation has teamed up with the Barclays PGA Tour, set at the Ridgewood Country Club, to sell tickets for the event through the Tickets Fore Charity program. This program offers 100 percent of the net proceeds from ticket sales to charity: 75 percent will benefit the Ridgewood Education Foundation, and 25 percent will benefit The First Tee of Metropolitan New York. Daily grounds tickets will be offered through Aug. 25 at the special rate of $45.
