Page 8 THE VILLADOM TIMES II • August 4, 2010 Glen Rock Roundup ‘Movies under the Stars’ returns The Glen Rock Recreation Department is bringing Movies under the Stars back to Wilde Memorial Park on Maple Avenue, Glen Rock. On Aug. 4, the feature film will show how a young man’s life is changed for the better through the generosity of one family. The screen lights up with excitement as some tremendous football is played. (Rain date: Aug. 5.) On Aug. 25, the film presentation will lift spirits as two adventurers float in a house to the South American jungle. (Rain date: Aug. 26.) These family movies are free for Glen Rock families thanks to a generous donation from an anonymous sponsor. Refreshments will be available. Show time will be at dusk: approximately 8:30 p.m. Professor to discuss Obama’s leadership style The Widows and Widowers Group at the Glen Rock Jewish Center will meet Aug. 12 at 11:45 a.m. Guest speaker Alain L. Sanders, a political science professor at Saint Peter’s College, will discuss President Obama’s leadership style. There will be a question and answer period afterwards. The group meets in the social hall of the center located at 682 Harristown Road. A light lunch will be served. Library announces teen programs Glen Rock Library’s teen program, The Hunger Games, will continue Aug. 7 at 3 p.m. with Capture the Flag tag in the park. (Rain date: Aug. 10.) On Aug. 12 at 2 p.m., the second video game tournament will take place. Mystery Night is scheduled for Aug. 20 at 9 p.m. Teens will have the opportunity to solve a “murder.” Players will need to have their wits about them as they collect clues and take witness testimonials to determine “Whodunit?” Mystery Night will be the final event for this program. Participants are reminded the deadline for the teen Readathon and the photo scavenger hunt is Aug. 18 at 9 p.m. Readathon journals may be submitted by e-mail to: ian.parsells@bccls.org. The closing ceremony for the teen program will be Aug. 21 at noon at the library. Winners for the final events will be announced, and the grand prize will be Brandi Shortway, age 6, donated 12 inches of hair to Locks of Love. Opera company holds auditions The Ridgewood Gilbert & Sullivan Opera Company will hold auditions for its October production of “Patience.” Auditions for principal roles and chorus will be held at the Community Church of Glen Rock (one block east of Maple Avenue on Rock Road), second floor, Room 205, Glen Rock, on Aug. 5 and 9 from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Those who audition should arrive during the first hour and must be prepared to sing a song from the show or a piece that best shows their vocal quality.
