Ridgewood August 4, 2010 THE VILLADOM TIMES II • Page 3 Ridgewood Police Chief John Li Puma has taken retirement leave and will officially relinquish his duties some time in Police Chief John Li Puma has retired September after 25 years on the Ridgewood Police Department. Chief Li Puma, appointed by former in Massachusetts with a bachelor’s degree in geology, and enrolled in the secondary teacher education program at the University of Massachusetts. She received a master’s degree in education leadership from Seton Hall. She worked from 2002 to 2006 as an earth science teacher at Roxbury High School in Succasunna, and was the assistant director of the Children’s Garden Studio in New York City. She now possesses a provision certificate as a principal. J. KOSTER Mayor David Pfund after the retirement of Chief William Corcoran, had been one of two candidates as Chief Corcoran’s replacement. The other contender was Captain Keith Killion, who retired from the Ridgewood Police Department when he was elected to his first term on the Ridgewood Village Council two years ago, honoring a pledge he made during his election campaign. Killion was elected mayor of Ridgewood on July 1. Li Puma announced his retirement two weeks later. Li Puma is married and has two children. Mayor Pfund had praised Li Puma as a highly qualified officer at the time of his appointment, noting that the chief had turned down an opportunity to join the FBI -- a top opportunity in law enforcement -- and had chosen to serve with the Ridgewood Police Department instead. Elizabeth Moreland has been appointed assistant principal of the George Washington Middle School in Ridgewood. She will assume her new duties on Aug. 30. Moreland is enrolled in a doctoral program at Teachers College of Columbia University and spent the previous school years as assistant principal of building management in Fort Lee. She has also worked as an assistant principal in New York City. Her salary will be $128,015, pro-rated. Moreland graduated from Smith College George Washington School to have new assistant principal Captain John Ward, the senior officer on duty, will be running the Ridgewood Police Department on a day-to-day basis until Chief Li Puma officially leaves next month. No details for the appointment of a new police chief were made available at press time. Ridgewood Police Department members recently saved the jobs of the two newest officers on the department by each accepting unpaid furloughs of one day per month rather than see the two newcomers lose their jobs after two years of capable police work. So far, no sworn officers have been laid off. Ridgewood has laid off a number of workers in other departments, and has reduced some full-time jobs to part-time jobs due to economic considerations. J.
