HILT plans August events The next HILT meeting will be held Aug. 12 at 10 a.m. A 35-minute documentary entitled “A Walk through Historic Ridgewood,” will be shown and Village Manager Kenneth Gabbert will address questions and concerns regarding the future of senior programming. HILT members will travel to Spring Lake on Aug. 19. The group will visit Doolan’s for lunch and a show produced by Mike Byrne. The Byrne brothers, Mike, Bobby and Jimmy, will offer a program that includes the music of Neil Diamond, Patsy Kline, or Barbra Streisand. The bus will depart from Graydon Pool at 9:30 a.m. and return at 5:45 p.m. The cost is $43 for HILT members; $48 for nonmembers. Ridgewood residents who are age 55 and older are invited to join Highlights in Leisure Time. This senior organization is run under the auspices of the Ridgewood’s Department of Parks and Recreation. Monthly meetings include entertainment or informational presentations followed by refreshments. Annual membership dues are $15. For more information, contact the Ridgewood Parks and Recreation Department at (201) 670-5600. Education foundation benefit underway The Ridgewood Education foundation has teamed up with the Barclays PGA Tour, set at the Ridgewood Country Club, to sell tickets for the event through the Tickets Fore Charity program. This program offers 100 percent of the net proceeds from ticket sales to charity: 75 percent will benefit the Ridgewood Education Foundation, and 25 percent will benefit The First Tee of Metropolitan New York. Daily grounds tickets will be offered through Aug. 25 at the special rate of $45. To purchase tickets under the Tickets Fore Charity program, log on to www.buytfc.com, click on the Barclays button, and select “buy tickets.” Ticketmaster is the host of this site. Over the last two years of the Ridgewood Education Foundation’s involvement with this event, the PGA Tour has donated $37,000 to REF to fund classroom grants and arts fund programs. Library to close on Sundays Due to current budgetary constraints, the Ridgewood Public Library at 125 North Maple Avenue will be closed
on Sundays during the month of August. Ianacone to exhibit ‘Waterscapes’ Local resident and photographer John Ianacone will highlight water in his August exhibit at the Stable Gallery. Whether the focus is rain or ocean, mist or rapids, lakes or pools, the common element that holds the exhibit together is the presence of water. “Waterscapes” seeks to portray the emotions of water, its comment on life in its beauty, and its spiritual meaning. Ianacone has been practicing photography for over 50 years. The public is invited to a Meet the Artist morning coffee on Aug. 5, at 10 a.m., and an Artist Reception on Thursday, Aug. 19 from 7 to 9 p.m. The Stable Gallery, located at 259 North Maple Avenue, Ridgewood, is open weekdays between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. or by appointment. Volunteers sought for The Barclays-FedExCup The Barclays--FedExCup Golf Tournament, scheduled for Aug. 24 through 29 at the Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus, is now accepting applications for volunteers. The Ridgewood YMCA has again been selected as a designated charity for this event. The Y will share in the philanthropy from the event based on the number of volunteers they provide with a portion of PGA proceeds set to benefit the Ridgewood YMCA Good Works program. All volunteers are required to purchase a $50 volunteer package, which helps offset a portion of the actual cost so the tournament can continue to benefit local charitable organizations. To volunteer, visit http://barclaysvolunteers. pgatourhq.com to apply online or to download an application form. Be sure to mark the Ridgewood YMCA as the affiliated organization. Summer worship at OPRC Summer hours for Sunday worship at Ridgewood’s Old Paramus Reformed Church will begin at 9:30 a.m. now through Aug. 29. The sanctuary is air conditioned.
