On May 7, at 8 p.m., the Ridgewood Symphony Orchestra will present its last concert of the 2009-10 70th Anniversary season. Featured along with the Liszt “Piano Concerto No. 1” will be two world premieres: Lee Actor’s “Redwood Fanfare” and Hampson Sisler’s “Of Humankind.” Completing the quartet of pieces will be Franz Schubert’s “Symphony No. 8,” the “Unfinished.” Schubert’s “Unfinished” symphony is one of the most often performed works. Scholars have debated for a century and a half the reason for its lack of a third movement. Attempts have been made to complete the symphony using Schubert’s compositional scraps. Despite its truncated condition, it has become one of the best loved of Schubert’s compositions. Liszt’s “Piano Concerto No.1” was sketched in 1830 when Liszt was 19. It was not completed until 1853 and had its first performance in 1855 with the composer at the piano and composer Hector Berlioz conducting the orchestra. At the RSO’s May 7 presentation, the concerto will be performed by internationally known pianist Eduardus Halim. Sisler, composer of one of the two world premieres, is a distinguished organist and composer. Over 100 of his compositions have been published. He was born in New York City in 1932 and is presently the music director of the
