Enchanting play Recognizing the invaluable contribution of community volunteers, Senator John A. Girgenti is again seeking nominations for the “John A. Girgenti Civic League Volunteer of the Year Award. Nominees must reside in the 35th Legislative District, which includes Paterson, Totowa, Haledon, North Haledon, Prospect Park, Hawthorne, and Glen Rock. Senator Girgenti (D-Passaic) noted, “Volunteers play many vital roles in our community and they provide for the success of many worthwhile programs at no cost. At a time when government is struggling to reduce taxes, volunteers render invaluable services to taxpayers. Moreover, their unselfishness and community spirit exhibit values that seem to be on the decline in today’s society. Those values need to be recognized and by giving them the credit they deserve. I hope they will be emulated and encouraged by others.” Girgenti seeks award nominees Girgenti said his office is now accepting nominations, and the winner will be chosen by a committee of Civic League members. The award will be presented at the Civic League Annual Dinner May 18. “I have made this an annual event because I know there are so many deserving people whose efforts often go unnoticed. But through this program, and through the actions of our friends and neighbors, we can periodically acknowledge the invaluable contribution of volunteers,” Senator Girgenti said.
