April 21, 2010 THE VILLADOM TIMES II • Page 7 Ridgewood The New Jersey Library Association has named the Bolger Foundation, created by Ridgewood philanthropist David F. Bolger, as 2010 Library Champion. The Library Champion award is presented annually to a selected organization that has made an exceptional contribution to New Jersey libraries. The Bolger Foundation, which has given more than $70 million in philanthropic donations since its creation in 2000, joins an illustrious group of recent Library Champions, including the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Bolger Foundation named 2010 Library Champion the PSE&G Foundation, and Verizon New Jersey. The Bolger Foundation has provided significant gifts to the public libraries of Ridgewood, Glen Rock, and Midland Park, greatly enhancing local library facilities. Most recently, the foundation funded the $1.5 million restoration of the original George L. Pease Memorial Library in Ridgewood. James “JT” Bolger, president of Bolger & Company, personally supervised all elements of the elegant renovation, which now includes professional office space and parking. Pease Building rental proceeds will support Ridgewood Library services for generations to come. Additional Ridgewood Library improvements funded by the Bolger Foundation include a new video security system, the barrier-free Maple Avenue entrance, and the library’s graceful colonnade. David F. Bolger is foundation president and founder. His sons JT Bolger and John G. Bolger are foundation trustees, as are Lois Coonradt and Thomas M. Wells, Esq. “Our library board and staff are forever grateful to David Bolger and the Bolger Foundation,” said Ridgewood Library Director Nancy Greene. “Their ongoing commitment to improving public libraries has earned the respect of local residents, and now also the honor of being named Library Champions for all of New Jersey.” The Bolger Foundation will be honored during the upcoming NJLA Awards Reception on April 27. John G. Bolger will accept the award on behalf of the foundation. The Junior Woman’s Club of Ridgewood will hold its Thirteenth Annual Spring House Tour on May 13 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. This charity event will feature five unique homes located in Ridgewood. Interior decor styles range from eclectic to traditional. All homes feature design elements that are visually spectacular, making this year’s event one not to be missed. Junior Woman’s Club sets Spring House Tour for May 13 “The Junior Woman’s Club of Ridgewood is excited to present the 2010 House Tour,” said Club President Bernadette Walsh. “This is always a very rewarding day for the members of our club. The homes this year are brilliant -- each one unique in architecture and décor. Every tour-goer will find a home that appeals to (his or her) own taste. I thank the owners for graciously opening their homes for this worthy event, and working with them has been a pleasure. Our House Tour Committee is dedicated to providing our community with a pleasurable day of touring homes while raising funds to support local women’s and children’s charities.” Participants will be able to enjoy lunch in downtown Ridgewood. “In further support of our community, we have coordinated ‘dine-in’ and ‘take-away’ House Tour Specials with a number of local eateries. We encourage tour-goers to experience the full flavor of our village by sampling our wonderful restaurants and strolling through our vibrant business district.” The annual Spring House Tour is the largest fundraiser hosted by the Junior (continued on page 13) EARTH CITIZEN WALK Every Day... • More than 3,000 children die of hunger and easily preventable diseases. • 50,000 die due to poverty-related causes.
