April 7, 2010 THE VILLADOM TIMES II • Page 5 Ridgewood Council candidates file; incumbents opt out Ridgewood Mayor David Pfund and Councilman Patrick Mancuso will not seek new terms in this year’s May 11 nonpartisan election. The four candidates who have filed for the two available four-year council seats include former Councilman Thomas Riche, and newcomers Bernadette Coghlan-Walsh, Douglas Cronk, and Brian Dowd. Pfund is an eight-year village government veteran who was named to the mayor’s post immediately after he was elected by the public. He is an attorney in his professional life. Mancuso has served on the Ridgewood Village Council for 20 years, and formerly served as mayor. Riche is the owner of an electronics firm. Cronk and Dowd have reportedly advocated the renovation of Graydon Pool with multiple concrete swimming pools. Ridgewood’s non-partisan elections do not permit candidates to run as members of the Republican or Democratic parties, or of any other national party. The candidates may run as individuals or as members of local slates. The Township of Mahwah also holds nonpartisan municipal elections every other May. That municipality is currently reviewing a n new state law, which permits municipalities with nonpartisan governments to hold their elections on the date of the general election in November. J.
