The meeting will be held at the Community Church in Glen Rock. Guida will discuss the nearly 9,000 acres of park land where visitors ski, jog, cycle, golf, picnic, camp overnight, take guided nature hikes, swim, play softball and tennis, and more. The Activities Club is a group of retired and semi-retired men involved in social, athletic, intellectual, and community service. Teen Video Game Tournament set On Saturday, April 10, teens in grades six through eight are invited to compete against friends in the second Teen Video Game Tournament at the Glen Rock Public Library. Participants will race to the finish in a random online video game where achievements are the key to winning. Prizes will be awarded to the three top players at the event. Prizes include next-gen video games, DVDs, CDs, books, posters, gift cards, and more. The competition is free. Harris named to Dean’s List Glen Rock resident Susan Harris has been named to the Dean’s List at Caldwell College in Caldwell for the fall 2009 semester. In order to achieve this honor, students must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher and complete at least 12 credits during the semester. Torino to address Garden Club Birdscaping expert Don Torino will discuss backyard wildlife habitats that attract birds, butterflies, and other critters when he addresses the Glen Rock Garden Club on Tuesday, April 20 at 7:45 p.m. The group will meet in the Glen Rock Municipal Annex. Admission is free, and the public is welcome to attend. Seniors’ group sets meeting The Senior Citizen Advisory Committee of Glen Rock will meet at 1:30 p.m. on April 13 at the Glen Rock Municipal Building. Doris Ciaramella will chair the meeting. Aeronautics group welcomes public The North Jersey Radio Control Club welcomes the public to its April 9 meeting at the Glen Rock Municipal Annex. This group is for North Jersey residents who are interested in flying model aircraft. Experienced flyers, beginners, and their families are welcome. This special event will include a showcase of vintage radio control equipment throughout the decades, and the opportunity to meet some of North Jersey’s most experienced flyers. Attendees may request a free access permit to visit the club’s remote mountaintop flying field in Ringwood State Park, where they may see radio-controlled airplanes, gliders, and helicopters flown by club members. Bereavement support group forming The parishes of Saint Catharine, Saint Gabriel, and Our Lady of Mount Carmel will be offering a nine-week bereavement group for those who have lost a loved one. Sessions will be held on nine consecutive Tuesdays beginning April 13 from 10 a.m. to noon in the Saint Catharine Ministry Center, 905 South Maple Avenue, Glen Rock. Fish and Chips Dinner set On April 14, the Women’s Guild of the Community Church will host a Fish and Chips Dinner in Fellowship Hall from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. The dinner is open to the community. The old-fashioned fish fry, an annual tradition, will be catered by Tastefully British in the English tradition. Dinner includes a fish fillet, french fries, coleslaw, beverages, and dessert. Tickets are $13 for adults, $6.50 for children ages four through 12, and $35 for families. Children under three years of age will be admitted free. Chicken dinners and takeout orders are available and should be ordered when tickets are purchased. Candidates’ Night set The League of Women Voters of Glen Rock will hold a Candidates’ Night forum for the Glen Rock Board of Education on Tuesday, April 6, in the gymnasium at Central School, 600 Maple Avenue, at 7:30 p.m. The candidates will present their views on the issues in response to questions posed by the audience. The four candidates, Jacquelyn Johnson, Carlo Cella III, Sheldon Hirschberg, and Sanjiv Ohri are vying for three three-year seats. The election is scheduled for April 20. The League of Women Voters is a non-partisan political organization that encourages the informed and active participation of citizens in government. As part of its voter services, the league registers new voters and organizes Candidates’ Nights whenever there is a contested election.
