Page 10 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • September 29, 2010 Eastern Christian receives 9/11grant Eastern Christian School in North Haledon recently received a significant anonymous grant to support the award of four Sept. 11 Academic Honor Scholarships to students enrolled in Eastern Christian High School and Eastern Christian Middle School. The scholarship grant was received on the ninth anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon. The inspiration for the scholarship comes directly from the Biblical account of Joseph’s reunification with his brothers found in Genesis 50 which includes Joseph’s statement, “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good…” Eastern Christian Executive Director and Head of School Tom Dykhouse said, “Eastern Christian School is grateful for this generous gift which will support our mission of providing an excellent Christian education to the children and young people of northern New Jersey. The message of transforming an act intended for evil into a blessing is the very essence of the Biblical message of transformation and hope taught to our 760 students on a daily basis.” The Sept. 11 Academic Honor Scholarship is intended to promote excellence and innovation in the classroom, leadership, community participation, faith, integrity, and character. Recipients will be selected on the basis of these attributes and family financial need. Eastern Christian School Association was founded in 1892 and operates a high school in North Haledon, a middle school in Wyckoff, and an elementary and preschool in Midland Park. The three schools serve 760 students from communities throughout northern New Jersey and southern New York. Information about the school, including its cutting edge technology, foreign language and college credit programs may be found at www.easternchristian.org or by calling (973) 427-6244.
