September 22, 2010 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • Page 5 Midland Park The Midland Park Council is looking to further restrict parking on Hill Street as a safety measure. At its last meeting council members discussed extending the no parking area, particularly around the “s” curve near Cyphers Lane. An ordinance is expected to be introduced at this week’s council meeting. No parking areas on Hill Street to be extended “The “s” curve is too narrow to get emergency vehicles through,” explained Police Chief John Casson. “People have been parking on the street in that area, and no ambulance can get through, let alone a fire truck,” he added. Borough Administrator Michelle Dugan said that Residents who have confidential personal papers they would like to destroy are invited to Midland Park’s Free Mobile Paper Shredding Event, scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 13 in the municipal parking lot, 280 Godwin Ave from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. The event is geared to preventing identity theft and saving trees by recycling. All paper documents will be shredded on site. No Borough to sponsor shredding day now that curbs define the roadway, cars can no longer pull over on the grass and thus intrude more on the pavement. The street was recently reconstructed as part of a storm drainage project. The current ordinance prohibits parking on the narrow street 500 feet in from Erie Avenue and 700 feet in from Vreeland Avenue. binders, plastic, metal or X-rays are permitted. Hardcover books, magazines, newspapers and photographs are not acceptable as well. For more information or directions, call borough hall at 445-5720.
