Connolly resigns from township committee seat
by John Koster David Connolly resigned from the Wyckoff Township Committee effective last week with a letter to Mayor Rudy Boonstra and Township Clerk Joyce Santimauro. “It has been my pleasure serving the employees and taxpayers of the Township of Wyckoff,” Connolly wrote. “I want to thank all the citizens of Wyckoff for their trust in my ability to make correct decisions on behalf of all Wyckoff taxpayers. For those in our volunteer fire and ambulance department, I cannot thank you enough for the time given to Wyckoff and times enjoyed together. The pleasure has been all mine.” He told Villadom TIMES he thanked his wife Mary and their children for their support. “Since coming on board some years ago, the time commitment to such a position has increased geometrically, and I need to take a break to focus elsewhere. For the next few years, there is a need to focus on family matters, business opportunities, and time with parents.” Connolly praised the township’s staff and the members of the volunteer fire department and ambulance corps. “I had fun convincing the township attorney and police officers to be part of a team in the Wyckoff Triathlon,” Connolly recalled. He added, “I continue to enjoy my life and Wyckoff knowing that I have served with some of the best.” Connolly was first elected to the township committee in 2004 and served as mayor of Wyckoff in 2007. He began his second term on Jan. 1, 2009. As a member of the Finance Committee, he played a strong role in trying to bring the Wyckoff budget into line, a process he often described as grueling and arduous. A Wyckoff resident since 1984, Connolly is a 1977 graduate of Villanova University and a partner in Thomas H. Connolly & Sons, Inc., the oldest professional sales agency in the boating industry. He and his wife Mary have three children and are parishioners of Saint Elizabeth’s Roman
Catholic Church in Wyckoff. Connolly is a member of the Wyckoff Planning Board and a member of the Wyckoff Education Foundation for 10 years. He has coached baseball, softball, and soccer in the township’s recreation program. In 2005, he received the Wyckoff Family YMCA’s William E. Boye Humanitarian Award “Celebrating Children.” Active in Scouting, Connolly has been a mainstay of Team Up to Tidy Up and the township’s Arbor Day ceremonies.
