Author to discuss ghostly haunts L’aura Hladik, founder of the New Jersey Ghost Hunters Society and author of “Ghosthunting New Jersey” and “Ghosthunting New York City,” will present a talk and slide show of the top haunted places of New Jersey and New York City on Oct. 4. Club seeks new members The Franklin Lakes Newcomers& Neighbors Club will offer a free craft project for children at Franklin Lakes Day, Sept. 25, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Look for their booth on the field behind the municipal building, and feel free to ask questions about the club. Founded in 1967, the group’s mission is to develop friendships and strengthen community spirit. Activities are available for mothers, readers, card players, food

Help for the college-bound On Monday, Sept. 27, Joshua Marber, MS.Ed., will return to Franklin Lakes Library at 6:30 p.m. to advise teens and their families about the overall college decision-making and admission processes. “Choosing the Right College” will address when students should begin their search and college visits, how to fill out applications and write essays, and advice about the SATs and ACTs. Marber will also discuss how students can get the most financial aid, scholarships, and grants. Marber has over 10 years of experience in the education, counseling, and college fields. Flu and pneumonia vaccines available The Valley Hospital Department of Community Health and the Franklin Lakes Board of Health will offer flu and pneumonia vaccines Nov. 3 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Franklin Lakes Recreation Center at 1 Vichiconti Way. All residents who are at least 65 years of age are eligible. Registration is required; call (201) 291-6090. Flu and pneumonia vaccines are covered by traditional Medicare Part B. Recipients must present their card at the time of service. Anyone with an HMO may choose to go to his or her primary care provider or choose to pay $27 for a flu vaccination. Pneumonia vaccines will be available for those who have never had a previous pneumonia vaccination. The cost is $35. Flu shots are encouraged for those aged 65 and over and those with chronic illnesses.
