Area September 22, 2010 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • Page 17 On Thursday, Sept. 23 at 10:30 a.m., Friends of West Bergen Mental Healthcare will hold a special meeting at the Ridgewood Library, 125 North Maple Avenue, to launch Friends of West Bergen for 2010-11. West Bergen is a non-profit counseling and psychiatric center that provides services for individuals, children, and families in need. Robin Kazmierczak of Oakland, first vice president of the West Bergen Board of Trustees and chair of the Development Committee, explained that the meeting has multiple purposes. “Our goal,” Kazmierczak said, “is to share with you Friends of West Bergen meeting set; community invited West Bergen’s programs and services, to highlight exciting and new fun events being planned, and to explore a number of volunteer activities.” Kazmierczak further explained that the vision for Friends of West Bergen began several years ago. “We need the community’s help in order to continue to aid and support the agency’s goals,” she added. “Please join us in advocating for West Bergen in our communities, increasing awareness of the agency and its services, and assisting in generating financial support.” Members of the community who wish to attend this week’s meeting are asked to contact Carol Cohen at (201) 444-3550 or e-mail her at ccohen@westbergen.org. Wyckoff Wanderings Friends of Wyckoff host meeting The Friends of Wyckoff will meet Wednesday, Sept. 22 at the Larkin House, 380 Godwin Avenue, from 7 to 9 p.m. The group’s agenda includes upcoming events, current developments, and an open forum. Wyckoff residents will have the opportunity to speak about township activities and may express their views on the proposals by ShopRite and the Vista, a 258-unit senior living facility in the Sicomac area. The meeting is open to Friends members and Wyckoff residents. Light refreshments will be served. Economy Shop opens The Wyckoff PTO Economy Shop has reopened for the fall. This non-profit consignment shop, staffed by volunteers from five Wyckoff School PTOs, the Ramapo APTS, and the Indian Hills PTSO, sells gently used clothing and small household items to directly benefit the local schools. Located in the old railroad station at 399 West Main Street in Wyckoff, the shop is open on Tuesdays and Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Evening hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:30 to 9 p.m., and the first Saturday of each month from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Donations of fall clothing are now being accepted. Zen Garland offers classes Zen Garland: An Order & Community for Zen Practice, Education and Service is now offering classes at the Community Study Center and Seminary. Panel to discuss elder care The Glen Rock Library, The SOURCE, and the Christian Health Care Center in Wyckoff will present “No Parent Left Behind” on Tuesday, Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. at the Glen Rock Library, 315 Rock Road, Glen Rock. This free program will cover the complicated transition that occurs when an adult becomes a care giver to his or her own parent. Judge Russell Teschon will present a professional panel. Register now for traveling teams Last Issue: The Wyckoff Recreation and Parks Department is holding registrations for the select traveling basketball teams. All boys and girls in grades three through eight who wish to try out for one of the traveling teams must register on or before Sept. 24 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the recreation office. Registration is open to Wyckoff residents. Only those players who register during the above time period will be contacted regarding tryout dates. There is no fee to register. League seeks candidates The Wyckoff Republican League has formed a Nominating Committee to solicit candidates for election as officers for the 2011 year. The term of office is usually Jan. 1 through Dec. 31. However, for this election cycle, the newly elected officers will be installed at the league’s Oct. 27 meeting and will serve through Dec. 31, 2011. Any interested members of the league should forward a letter of interest to the Nominating Committee at WyckoffWRL@gmail.com. Positions open for nomination include: president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer. Please respond to the committee ASAP as the slate is to be presented at the league’s Sept. 22 meeting. The league will join with the Midland Park Republican Club to sponsor the annual Honors Dinner, which will be held at the Brick House on Oct. 7 at 6:30 p.m. Each organization will honor a citizen.
