Goffle Road detours surprise local residents
by John Koster
Northwest Bergen County residents, including members of the Wyckoff Township Committee, were taken by surprise last week as they encountered the detours and sectional closings of Goffle Road. The work will reportedly last through the middle of November. “Goffle Road is going to be a mess,” Mayor Rudy Boonstra predicted at last week’s work session. “It’s
unfortunate that PSE&G waited until school started, but they did, and it is what it is. It’s going to be a mess.” Starting this week, Goffle Road between Rock Road in Hawthorne and Wyckoff Avenue in Wyckoff will be closed intermittently while the PSE&G crews and the utility company’s contractor perform work. The Wyckoff Police Department will be monitoring the road closure to ensure that one lane of traffic is available when construction work permits. The project
will be intermittent through Nov. 15. Access to local businesses in the area will be maintained, and all vehicles traveling in either direction on Goffle Road will be directed to follow a posted detour that will take them around the closed portion of the roadway. Emergency vehicles will have access at all times. Motorists who need to use Goffle Road should anticipate delays. Those who can should plan an alternate route.
The Wyckoff Township Committee has introduced an ordinance to accept an $80,346 grant to install ADA-

hall. The money will come from the Bergen County Community Development Grant fund. Installation of the improvement is expected to be complete before winter. The Bergen County Community Development Program provides grant opportunities for municipalities for improvements to remove architectural barriers to facilities and to construct barrier-free access. Wyckoff has used previous county grants for barrier-free ramps at town hall, police headquarters, the library, and the Larkin House, and for the removal of curb barriers throughout the business district.
