Register now for traveling teams The Wyckoff Recreation and Parks Department is holding registrations for the select traveling basketball teams. All boys and girls in grades three through eight who wish to try out for one of the traveling teams must register on or before Sept. 24 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the recreation office. Registration is open to Wyckoff residents. Only those players who register during the above time period will be contacted regarding tryout dates. There is no fee to register. Tryouts will take place from late October through mid-November. For more information, call (201) 891-3350 weekdays between 9 and 4:30. ‘Opal Extravaganza’ fundraiser set From Sept. 16 through 18, Devon Fine Jewelry will host an “Opal Extravaganza” from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. This event will highlight a special selection of opals, provide fascinating information about them, and raise money for the American Heart Association and The Devon Foundation. An opal necklace will be given away during this three-day event. Expert Jim Fiebig will present a special educational Geminar on Sept. 16 from 7 to 9 p.m. RSVP as seating is limited.

Republican League seeks candidates, sets events The Wyckoff Republican League has formed a Nominating Committee to solicit candidates for election as officers for the 2011 year. The term of office is usually Jan. 1 through Dec. 31. However, for this election cycle, the newly elected officers will be installed at the league’s Oct. 27 meeting and will serve through Dec. 31, 2011. Any interested members of the league should forward a letter of interest to the Nominating Committee at WyckoffWRL@gmail.com. Positions open for nomination include: president, vice
president, secretary, and treasurer. Please respond to the committee ASAP as the slate is to be presented at the league’s Sept. 22 meeting. The league will join with the Midland Park Republican Club to sponsor the annual Honors Dinner, which will be held at the Brick House on Oct. 7 at 6:30 p.m. Each organization will honor a citizen. election. On Sept. 23, Chris and Patti DePhillips will host a fundraiser for the county slate and for Mayor Boonstra.
