Library board to meet The Franklin Lakes Library Board of Trustees will meet Monday, Sept. 20 at 7:30 p.m. in the local history room of the library on DeKorte Drive. Practice Community to resume sittings The Practice Community at Franklin Lakes, a Buddhist Sangha in the tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh, will resume its regular schedule of sittings beginning Sept. 13. The group will meet on Mondays from 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesdays from 8 to 8:45 a.m., and Fridays from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m. The Sangha sits at the Presbyterian Church at Franklin Lakes, 730 Franklin Lake Road, Franklin Lakes. Auxiliary plans fall meetings The Franklin Lakes Branch of the Valley Hospital Auxiliary will hold a Welcome Back meeting Sept. 20 at 10:30 a.m. at the Franklin Lakes Library on DeKorte Drive. Activities for the coming year will be discussed. Frank Benedetto, director of the Bergen County Office of Consumer Protection, will offer his program “Don’t Be a Victim: Protect Yourself from Consumer Fraud and Current Scams” at the Oct. 18 meeting. Tot Time registration to begin The Franklin Lakes Public Library’s Tot-Time program, for children ages 30 months to five years, will offer a variety of activities, including stories, songs, finger plays, and a craft. Children experience their first introduction to children’s literature in a relaxed, but structured atmosphere. The program will be held on Tuesdays, Sept. 28 through Oct. 26, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. or 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. No session is scheduled for Oct. 19. A second session will be held on Thursdays, Sept. 30 through Oct. 28, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. or 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. There is no session scheduled for Oct. 21. Registration is required. Franklin Lakes residents may begin to register Wednesday, Sept. 15. Non-residents may begin to register Sept. 23. Fall Fun Day coming up On Sunday, Sept. 12, The Presbyterian Church at Franklin Lakes will host its Fall Fun Day. The church is located at 730 Franklin Lake Road, in Franklin Lakes. The worship service will begin at 10 a.m. with Rev. Vern Dethmers preaching. Julie Sibbald, professional storyteller, will give the children’s sermon, and Joan Buzick will lead a sing along at the conclusion of worship. A barbecue will immediately follow. The event will include face painting by artist Mary Guidetti McColl, pumpkin painting by participants, photos by Siegi Lehmann, caricatures, bocce, croquet, a bubble machine, and a bounce ride. Register for free watercolor class Franklin Lakes Public Library is offering a free watercolor pencil painting class on Thursday, Sept. 16 from 10 a.m. to noon. Artist Doris Schwint will demonstrate, and the materials will be provided for participants to complete their own watercolor painting. Class size is limited. Biathlon open to youth The First Franklin Lakes Youth “Splash and Dash”
Biathlon will be held Saturday, Sept. 11 at 8 a.m. Athletes ranging in age from seven to 15 will compete in this swim/ run event to be held at The Indian Trail Club, 830 Franklin Lake Road in Franklin Lakes. Proceeds will benefit both the Franklin Lakes Recreation Department and the Wyckoff Family YMCA. The race is designed to promote health and wellness for children and be a social community-wide event. There will be four race groups: seven- and eight-yearolds compete in a 75-yard pool swim and one-mile run; nine- to 11-year-olds swim 200 yards in pool and run two miles; 12- and 13-year-olds swim 400 yards in the lake and a 2.5 mile run; and 14- and 15-year-olds swim 600 yards in the lake and run three miles. All participants will receive a T-shirt. Prizes will be awarded to the top three in each age category and to the top three relay teams. The race will accommodate a limited number of participants. Individual fee is $50, and relay teams are $65. Sponsorship opportunities are available. Call Nancy at the

Fall recreation programs announced Franklin Lakes Recreation is offering a fall lineup of classes at the community center at 1 Vichiconti Way. Residents may register for the following programs: Tone Up class will be held Mondays and Fridays at 8 a.m.; Zumba is held Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 9 a.m.; yoga is available Tuesday and Thursday at 9 a.m. and Wednesday and Friday at 10:15 a.m.; and Tai Chi/chair yoga is offered Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday at 11 a.m. A senior watercolor class is offered on Tuesday at 2 p.m. The cost of the art program is $4 per class for residents and $8 per class for non-residents. The center is open Monday and Wednesday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.
