Republicans to meet The next meeting of the Midland Park United Republican Club will be held on Monday, Sept. 13 at 8:15 p.m. at the Midland Park Library, 250 Godwin Avenue, Midland Park. Residents are invited to participate in a friendly exchange of ideas in an effort to help solve the issues facing the community on local, county, state and federal levels. Library board to meet The Midland Park Memorial Library Board of Trustees will meet Sept. 15 at 7:30 p.m. The session will be held at the library, 250 Godwin Avenue, Midland Park. Auxiliary hosts Welcome Back Tea The Midland Park Branch of the Valley Hospital Auxiliary will host its Welcome Back Tea on Wednesday, Sept. 8 at 10 a.m. at the Faith Reformed Church, 95 Prospect Street, Midland Park. Members may pick up the new membership directory and pay their dues of $10 for the coming year, while enjoying unique teas, sandwiches, and sweets. Ethos plans Open House Ethos Fitness Spa for Women will host an Open House on Sept. 11 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fitness and spa activities include: complimentary day guest pass, free 15-minute spa services from 1 to 4 p.m., including skin analysis, facial cleanse, makeup application, or hand treatments; 20-minute mini group exercise classes in spin, yoga, Ethos power/cardio tone and zumba from 1 to 3 p.m.; and special product discounts, food, and prizes. Association schedules meeting The Midland Park Softball Association will conduct an open public meeting at the Midland Park Library on Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. The goals and objectives for the upcoming season will be discussed, and the new executive board will be introduced. Plant sale underway The Midland Park PTA will accept orders for its Fall Plant Sale through Sept. 10. Plants will be delivered to the high school front lawn for pick up on Sept. 30. Board of education to meet The Midland Park Board of Education will meet on Tuesday, Sept. 7 at 8 p.m. The meeting will be held in the August C. DePreker Media Center at Highland Elementary School. Local resident recognized Matthew Murphy of Midland Park was named to the Dean’s List at Saint John’s University for the spring 2010 semester. Cooperstown team tryouts set Midland Park Baseball Association Cooperstown 2011
Tryouts will be held Saturday, Sept. 11 (at a time to be determined) at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Field on Dairy Street in Midland Park. Tryouts will be run by an outside evaluator. The cost will be divided among the attendees. To be eligible, players must not turn 13 years of age before April 30, 2011. Those players who make the team will be required to participate in the fundraising necessary to attend the Cooperstown tournament, along with what is required by the MPBA for the U12 travel team. Fall tennis program offered Midland Park Recreation is offering a fall tennis program for children in kindergarten through grade nine. Sessions will be held at the Dairy Street Tennis Courts on Saturday mornings, Oct. 2 through 23. Fourth through sixth grade (intermediate) and seventh through ninth grade (advanced) classes will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. A clinic for students in kindergarten through third grade will be held from noon to 1 p.m. The cost is $40 per child, with a $70 maximum per family. Classes are designed to make learning tennis an enjoyable experience using skill-building drills, which teach players basic skills and rules of the game. Thrift shop opens for fall season The Community Thrift Shop, located on the lower level of the Midland Park Shopping Center at 85 Godwin Avenue, will reopen on Sept. for the fall season. The shop features nearly new brand name clothing, jewelry, bric-a-brac, toys, and more. Fifty-two member organizations benefit from sales at this shop, including Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Mount Carmel Rosary/Altar Society, First Presbyterian Church Women’s Guild, Eastern Christian School Athletic Boosters, YMCA-YWCA Bergen County, Shelter Our Sisters, and Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge, Inc. Nativity hosts parish picnic Church of the Nativity will host its parish picnic on Saturday, Sept. 18. The picnic will follow the 4 p.m. Mass held on the lawn behind the church. There will be a DJ and activities for children, a pie and cookie baking contest, and hot dogs, hamburgers, and corn on the cob.

Ryder’s fiction has appeared in literary journals. Her “Correction of Drift: a Novel in Stories,” about the Lindbergh baby kidnapping, was published by University of Alabama Press. The honoree and his wife, Sheila, have resided in Ramsey for over 40 years. They have three children and four grandchildren. The Iaoapogh Mountains District serves more than 3,000 Boy Scouts in the area, including the communities of Allendale, Franklin Lakes, Glen Rock, Ho-Ho-Kus, Mahwah, Midland Park, Oakland, Ramsey, Ridgewood, and Saddle River.
