Alliance hosts parenting program The Midland Park Alliance will host the Partnership for a Drug-Free New Jersey’s 15-Minute Child Break program on Nov. 10 at 8 p.m. at the Midland Park High School auditorium. The 15-Minute Child Break is a one-hour multi-media presentation that provides information on the importance of the parent or caregiver’s role in substance abuse prevention. Discussions will include how to talk to children about drugs, signs of use and abuse, and current terminology and trends. Referees sought Midland Park Basketball Association is seeking high school students and adults with solid knowledge of basketball to referee for the Midland Park Recreational Basketball program. Softball Association to meet The Midland Park Softball Association will meet on Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. at the Midland Park Library, 250 Godwin Avenue, Midland Park. Topics to be addressed at the meeting will include age cutoffs for the various levels of play. All parents are welcome. Dietitian to address PTA Susan J. Kraus, MS, RD, clinical dietitian at Hackensack University Medical Center will be a guest speaker at the Nov. 15 meeting of the Midland Park Elementary PTA. The session will be held at 7:30 p.m.
in the Highland School cafeteria. Kraus’ presentation “Healthy Kids, Healthy Bodies through Good Nutrition,” will focus on the importance of eating healthy food and maintaining a healthy body. At a time when our nation is experiencing obesity and early onset diabetes in epidemic proportions, it is imperative that parents and teachers educate children about the importance of choosing a healthy lifestyle. The program will include a question and answer session. Kraus has worked in the nutrition field for 30 years. She counsels patients with food hypersensitivities and makes presentations to community organizations on food allergies. Board of education to meet The Midland Park Board of Education will meet Nov. 2 at 8 p.m. The meeting will be held in the August C. DePreker Media Center at Highland Elementary School. Magic workshop for ‘tweens offered Magician Mark Zacharia will present his “Magic of the Mind” workshop for ‘tweens on Wednesday, Nov. 3 at 3:30 p.m. at the Midland Park Public Library, 250 Godwin Avenue. PAPS sponsors grocery tote sale The Midland Park High School Performing Arts Parents Association is selling large grocery tote bags for $3.50 each. Auxiliary plans meeting/hospital decorating The Midland Park Branch of the Valley Hospital Auxiliary will meet on Wednesday, Nov. 10 at 10 a.m. in the Faith Reformed Church on 95 Prospect Street. New members are welcome. The auxiliary will be making its plans to decorate Valley Hospital for the holidays. As part of the group’s regular activities, members volunteer at Kurth Cottage on the third Thursday of the month. Register for Story Time Registration for the second session of Fall Story Time will be held Nov. 1 through 5 in the children’s room at the Midland Park Library, 250 Godwin Avenue. Toddler Story Time will meet on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. from Nov. 10 through Dec. 15. Preschool Story Time will meet on Thursdays at either 11:15 a.m. or 2 p.m. from Nov. 18 through Dec. 16. All Story Times are developmentally appropriate and encourage children to
interact with books and express their creativity through open-ended craft activities. A variety of music, movement activities, and learning games are also incorporated into Story Time. Salon seeks donations for food pantry Family Hair Care is collecting non perishable food for the food pantry at the Star of Hope Ministry in Paterson. Donations may be dropped off during regular business hours at the salon, 222 Godwin Avenue in Midland Park. Halloween Parade & Coloring Contest slated Midland Park Recreation is sponsoring the Annual Halloween Parade and Coloring Contest on Friday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. in the Highland School gym. The Midland Park Fire Department will be on hand to lead the parade from the municipal parking lot into the school gym, where the Costume Contest will be held. Children in pre-school through the sixth grade are welcome to participate. Individual and group prizes will be awarded. Coloring Contest entries may be dropped off at 50 Dairy Street by Oct. 30. Children ages four through eight are invited to submit an entry. The picture to be colored may be found on the recreation website at www.mpnj.com. Baseball Association to meet The Midland Park Baseball Association will meet Nov. 1 at 7:30 p.m. at the Midland Park Public Library, 250 Godwin Avenue.
