Kim Brown, also known as D.W., is the sister of author Marc Brown, creator of the “Arthur” books. A secret about these popular books will be revealed that night. Every child who attends will be invited to draw an Arthur picture to take home. This Family Special is sponsored by the Friends of the Library. To register, call (201) 891-2224. ‘Medicine and Morals’ explored Chabad of NW Bergen County is offering an accredited CLE and AMA course, “Medicine and Morals: Your Jewish Guide through Life’s Tough Decision,” beginning Wednesday, Oct. 27 at 8 p.m. in Franklin Lakes. The six-week course will examine contemporary case studies and compare secular and Jewish approaches to such topics as organ transplantation, experimental and risky treatments, reproductive technologies, and the ethics of patient confidentiality. As medicine advances and life expectancy increases, so will ethical dilemmas. Jewish law creatively draws analogies with ancient paradigms to provide guidance through the maze of medical decisionmaking. The course is open to attorneys, physicians, and the general public. Event to benefit Women at Risk The Ladies Bible Study of Franklin Lakes Baptist Church’s Jewelry Party will benefit Women at Risk International on Nov. 11 from 4 to 9 p.m. The party will feature jewelry and other products made by women who have been rescued from human trafficking. Proceeds from this event will benefit WAR’s fight against human trafficking. WAR International is a nonprofit organization established to place circles of protection around women at risk. WAR partners with programs in over 18 different countries by giving hope, sharing God’s heart, and providing havens of healing.
