Since then, any property that had a physical change affecting market value was re-inspected. Leposky also advised that the billed amounts on the original tax bill that property owners received in August will not change. The bill for the second half of 2011 will be adjusted to reflect the correct amounts so the taxes for the total calendar year 2011 will be based on the new assessed values and the 2011 tax rate. The 2011 tax rate will not be available, however, until the 2011 budgets are approved sometime in the June to July period of 2011. Leposky pointed out that property taxes will not be reduced due to the reassessment because everyone’s assessment will drop in the same manner. He advised, however, that a property owner retains the right to appeal his or her assessment between Jan. 1 and May 1 of 2011, but must prove the market value of the property in question as of Oct. 1, 2010.
