C he Red Ribbon Pretzel Company is a hidden treasure located at 150-D Florence Avenue in Hawthorne. Owners and longtime friends Joyce Puro and Roseann Toscano teamed up in November 2009, and opened their factory that December. Their retail store was launched just before Easter 2010. The Red Ribbon Pretzel Company specializes in chocolate pretzels, but also creates unique chocolate treats made with cookies, Joyce Puro and Roseann Toscano glace fruits, gummy candies, and more. Gourmet pretzels are made with toffee, dark chocolate, and a host of other ingredients, and include the shop’s signature treat: a pretzel rod dipped in caramel, rolled in peanuts, and covered with milk chocolate. One of the shop’s most popular items is the Peanut Butter Square – square pretzels layered with peanut butter and dipped in dark chocolate. “Our product is delicious and looks beautiful, so it sells itself,” Joyce says. These beautiful and festive treats are popular as favors and corporate gifts. Clients select their favorite flavors and colors, and Joyce and Roseann set to work. Many clients also order custom platters for parties and other special events. Several local businesses now feature The Red Ribbon Pretzel Company’s confections. “We just keep growing,” Joyce adds. Roseann had been creating pretzel treats for her own friends and family for many years. Last year, the two women decided the timing was perfect to start their own specialty shop, and business has been brisk, with orders from private clients and local retail establishments. Joyce and Roseann invite customers to stop in this month and see the Halloween display. Hours are 10-6 Tuesday through Saturday, and 10-7 on Thursday. Call (973) 310-3986 for additional information.
