October 6, 2010 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • Page 13 Wyckoff Wanderings Electronic Recycling Day coming up The Friends of Wyckoff will hold Electronic Recycling Day Oct. 9 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Wyckoff Reformed Church, 580 Wyckoff Avenue. The event will be held rain or shine. For a list of acceptable electronic items, residents may visit www.FriendsOfWyckoff.org. This year, the Friends will also collect bicycles in conjunction with Peddles for Progress, an organization that provides bikes to the needy worldwide. Fund Drive underway The Wyckoff Volunteer Ambulance Corps recently launched its annual Fund Drive, and letters have been mailed to each resident. This 100 percent volunteer group is requesting donations to help support the organization, keep equipment up-to-date, and keep fee-based services out of the community. WVAC provides basic life support to Wyckoff and neighboring communities completely free of charge. The group relies heavily on donations to maintain this service. Sobel to speak at Beth Rishon The Reader’s Circle Book Club at Temple Beth Rishon will host author Miriam Sobel on Thursday, Oct. 7 at 7:30 p.m. Sobel will discuss her book “World’s Apart” and will be available to sign books. Historical Society hosts guest speaker Susan Roche will speak to the Wyckoff Historical Society about endangered Bergen County homesteads on Monday, Oct. 18 at 7:30 p.m. The program will be held at the Larkin House at 380 Godwin Avenue. Roche, certified by the National Park Service to teach the American Revolution, will focus on the restoration of the Lindemeyer Home in Paramus. This event is open to the public. Night of comic opera coming to Wyckoff As part of its growing theatrical program, the Wyckoff YMCA will stage a night of comic opera on Friday Oct. 8. The program will be held at 7:30 p.m. on the Y’s Carl Pfeifer Performing Arts Stage at 691 Wyckoff Avenue in Wyckoff. The evening’s centerpiece will be Puccini’s one-act comic opera “Gianni Schicchi,” which will be performed in English. Also on the program are comic scenes from “The Barber of Seville,” “The Impressario,” “Die Fledermaus,” and “The Merry Widow,” along with some operatic surprises. The program is sponsored in part by the Max Kade Foundation. Included in the local cast are Adelmo Guidarelli, Katherine Cardin, Josh Benevento, Reegan McKenzie, Sean Santry, Lauren Pearson, Steve Fredericks, Gregory Wright, Matthew Haines, Andrea Long, Mark Quiles, Ernie Revell, and Matt Wallace. The upcoming production will be directed by Reegan McKenzie, with Georgianna Pappas serving as musical director and accompanist. Rocktoberfest features The Nerds The Wyckoff Family YMCA at 691 Wyckoff Avenue invites the community to enjoy brats and beer enjoying a performance by The Nerds. This group will bring its high energy rock n’ roll and comedy to the stage on Friday, Oct. 22 at 8 p.m. The Nerds perform over 200 nights a year and have completely dominated the club, college, corporate, fair, and festival markets. They have appeared with Earth, Wind & Fire, Sheryl Crow, Bruce Springsteen, and the Beach Boys, and the band’s massive fan base stretches all over the world. Bible Study to begin A seven-week Bible Study, “Reading the Bible without Checking Your Mind at the Door,” will begin on Wednesday, Oct. 6 from 7:30 to 8:45 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church in Wyckoff. Dr. David Wiley, pastor, will lead the group as they focus on the “primeval histories” found in the first 11 chapters of the Book of Genesis. This section includes the creation stories, the fall, Cain and Abel, the Tower of Babel, and the flood of Noah. Attendees are asked to bring their own Bibles. Pre-registration is not necessary.
