Ramapo High School athletic director suspended
by Frank J. McMahon Todd Meyer, the athletic and student activities director at Ramapo High School, has been suspended by Superintendent Lauren Schoen pending an investigation into allegations of misconduct. The Ramapo Indian Hills Board of Education has voted to continue Meyer’s suspension with pay while the allegations are further investigated. A resolution to extend Meyer’s suspension indefinitely was developed and approved last week at a hastily called executive session. Citing legal constraints, Superintendent Lauren Schoen declined to provide any details concerning Meyer’s suspension or to provide any explanation in order to dispel the many rumors that have been circulating around the school district and in the community. Meyer is a 1981 graduate of Springfield College with a dual major in physical education and psychology. He received a master’s degree from Montclair State University in sports administration and he received a second master’s in administration, curriculum, and supervision from New Jersey City University. He has coached basketball, football, tennis, baseball, and track at the high school level and from 1986 to 1992 and he was the Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Ramapo College. In 1991, he led Ramapo College to the Division III Final Four. Also at last week’s executive session, the school board hired former Ramapo High School football coach and athletic director Michael Miello as acting athletic and student activities director for Ramapo High. Miello will be paid $400 per day until such time as the board makes a final determination regarding Meyer’s suspension. Miello was employed by the regional district from 1978 to 1993, when he retired after coaching the school’s football team for 16 years. In 1993, his varsity team posted a record of 11-0 and earned the Group 3 Section 1 state championship. He was reappointed for 1995-96 as the school’s football coach and athletic director, a position he retained until he retired once again in 1999. Miello also served as an interim assistant principal at Indian Hills High School from Feb. 1 to April 14, 2008. Before coming to Ramapo High School, Miello coached at Hackensack High School for six years and was an assistant high school and college football coach for another five years.
