Tour the Franklin Lakes Clove A walking tour of Franklin Lakes Clove will be led by Jim Longo on Saturday, Nov. 13 at 11 a.m. Rain date: Nov. 20. The clove was the site of the winter camp of the Lenni Lenapes in the late 17th and early 18th centuries. Situated near a waterfall, the clove (Dutch for ravine) was a perfect campsite with its source of fresh water. Longo will discuss the customs of the Lenni Lenapes of this period. Concert features Italian love songs Tenor Salvatore Chiarelli and soprano Elga Joannes will sing everyone’s favorite Italian songs, arias, and more at the Franklin Lakes Public Library on Sunday, Nov. 14 at 2 p.m. Seats are given on a “first come” basis for this free concert. All are welcome to attend. The library is located at 470 DeKorte Drive. Merliss presents stories and songs Songwriter and entertainer Teri Merliss will run a fiveweek musical program for children age three and older. The program will be held at the Franklin Lakes Public Library, 470 DeKorte Drive, on Fridays, Nov. 12 and 19, and Dec. 3, 10, and 17, from 11 to 11:30 a.m. Children will hear amusing stories and sing original songs. Leegant discusses new novel Barnert Temple will present a Nov. 21 book talk and signing by author Author Joan Leegant. The author will focus on her novel “Wherever You Go,” which concerns three Americans living in Israel who are caught in a vortex of religious and political extremism. The book asks the reader to consider how far he or she is willing to go in the name of a cause. The program will begin at 7 p.m. at Barnert Temple, 747 Route 208 South in Franklin Lakes. Magician presents Thanksgiving program Magician Steve Woyce, along with Tom the Turkey and Henry the Magic Rabbit will offer a Thanksgiving program packed with magic and comedy at the Franklin Lakes Public Library on Tuesday, Nov. 23 at 4:15 p.m. This Family Special, sponsored by the Friends of the Library, is open to Franklin Lakes residents and current members of the Friends organization. Republican Club plans meeting The Franklin Lakes Republican Club will meet on Monday, Nov. 15 at 7:45 p.m. at the Bender Court Ambulance Corps Building. The group will review the results of the municipal and county elections, and will set the 2011 agenda. This will be the group’s final session for 2010. The Franklin Lakes Republican Club is a non-profit organization established to represent the Republican Party in Franklin Lakes. The organization is devoted to the cause of community improvement and good government through an organized Republican Party and the support of candidates for public office who will best represent the interests of the residents and taxpayers of Franklin Lakes. Event to benefit Women at Risk The Ladies Bible Study of Franklin Lakes Baptist Church’s Jewelry Party will benefit Women at Risk International on Nov. 11 from 4 to 9 p.m. The party will feature jewelry and other products made by women who have been rescued from human trafficking.
Proceeds from this event will benefit WAR’s fight against human trafficking. WAR International is a nonprofit organization established to place circles of protection around women at risk. WAR partners with programs in over 18 different countries by giving hope, sharing God’s heart, and providing havens of healing.
