Delmont to address auxiliary Andrea Delmont, manager of the Kurth Cottage Gift Shop at Valley Hospital, will speak at the Nov. 10 meeting of the Midland Park Branch of the Valley Hospital Auxiliary. Delmont will discuss the organization’s upcoming fashion show, which will feature fashions from Kurth Cottage. The meeting is set for 10 a.m. at Faith Reformed Church, 95 Prospect Street. New members are welcome. The auxiliary will also discuss participation in the “Adopt-a-Family” program and the group’s plans to decorate Valley Hospital for the holidays. Santa to appear at Pancake Breakfast The Midland Park Fire Department will host its Annual Pancake Breakfast with Santa on Saturday, Dec. 11 from 8 to 11 a.m. at the firehouse on Witte Drive. The breakfast includes pancakes and sausage, coffee, and juice. Tickets are $4 per adult, and $2 for children ages two through 12. Children under age two will be admitted free. All children will receive a souvenir photo and small gift from Santa. Club opens model train display The Bergen County Model Railroad Club’s annual operating train display will be open for viewing at the Midland Park United Methodist Church, 269 Godwin Avenue, on Saturdays, Nov. 20 and 27 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sundays, Nov. 21 and 28 from 1 to 5 p.m.; and Friday, Nov. 26 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The donation is $5 for adults and $2 for children age Board of education meets The Midland Park Board of Education will meet Nov. 16 at 8 p.m. in the August C. DePreker Media Center at Highland Elementary School. Holiday Boutique set The Community Thrift Shop, located on the lower level of the Midland Park Shopping Center, will start its Holiday Boutique on Nov. 17. After Dec. 1, the shop will receive holiday items only. Regular store hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Receiving only is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Mondays. The first Saturday of each month is for receiving and shopping. Fifty-two organizations benefit from the shop’s sales, including are churches of all denominations and other businesses. Foundation hosts Hall of Shops, Military Bridge The Midland Park Public Education Foundation will offer a “Hall of Shops” featuring a wide range of gift items from more than 20 local businesses during its Nov. 11 Military Bridge Night at Midland Park High School. Shopping and contests are open to non-card players. Items for sale include one-of-a-kind jewelry, handbags, fashion accessories, home décor items, candles, food, cosmetics, and photographs. Doors will open at 6 p.m. for shopping, and the card game will begin at 7 p.m. Admission to Military Bridge is $15 per person; $12 for seniors 65 and older. Reservations are required. Alliance hosts parenting program The Midland Park Alliance will host the Partnership for a Drug-Free New Jersey’s 15-Minute Child Break program on Nov. 10 at 8 p.m. at the Midland Park High School auditorium. The 15-Minute Child Break is a one-hour multi-media presentation that provides information on the importance of the parent or caregiver’s role in substance abuse prevention. Kraus, MS, RD, clinical dietitian at Hackensack University Medical Center will be a guest speaker at the Nov. 15 meeting of the Midland Park Elementary PTA. The session will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Highland School cafeteria. Kraus’ presentation “Healthy Kids, Healthy Bodies through Good Nutrition,” will focus on the importance of eating healthy food and maintaining a healthy body. At a time when our nation is experiencing obesity and early onset diabetes in epidemic proportions, it is imperative that parents and teachers educate children about the importance of choosing a healthy lifestyle. The program will include a question and answer session. Kraus has worked in the nutrition field for 30 years.
