All Seasons Chamber Players to perform in village
The All Seasons Chamber Players, one of New Jersey’s most popular and active chamber music ensembles, will perform a concert in memory of William F. Wilkins on Sunday, Nov. 7 at 3 p.m. at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 15 Hope Street (corner of Ridgewood Avenue) in Ridgewood. Admission is free and all are welcome. Reservations are not necessary. The church is accessible to the physically challenged and there is ample parking. A Meet-The-Artists Reception will follow the concert in the Peace Lounge. A special collection for the Center for Food Action will be taken at intermission. For further information, call the church at (201) 444-7300. Wilkins was a beloved member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and was actively involved in its music programs. His death on Feb. 2 was a great loss to his family and to the members of Emmanuel Baptist Church. This program will be held in his honor on the church’s Heritage Sunday. The program, entitled “The Archduke” and Other Treasures, will feature Beethoven’s famous “Archduke Trio,” one of the great works of the chamber music literature; “Trio in E Flat Major for Flute, Cello and Piano, Op. 63” by Ferdinand Ries, a student of Beethoven; “Libertango” by Argentine composer Astor Piazzolla; “Romanza and Scherzo for Cello and Piano” by American composer Arthur Foote; and “Trio for Flute, Violin and Piano” by Nino Rota, an Italian composer famous for his movie scores. Robert Lawrence, co-director of programs, will introduce each piece to the audience. Now in its 30th anniversary season, the All Seasons Chamber Players has performed over 600 concerts in the metropolitan area. In addition, thousands of people have heard the ensemble on Cablevision’s MetroArts/13, COMCAST, WTT-35 and other cable stations in New Jersey. Winner of the Award for Artistic Excellence from the Bergen County Division of Cultural and Historic Affairs, the ensemble has received grants from several corporations and foundations. Performers are professional musicians who also play with major area orchestras, Broadway shows, and summer music festivals. They include flutist Brenda Sakofsky of New City, New York, violinist Robert Lawrence of New York City, cellist E. Zoe Hassman of New York City, pianist Ron Levy of Teaneck, and pianist Jean Strickholm of Demarest. This concert is one of 15 free, public Community Concerts for Bergen County supported by the Bank of America Foundation and the New Jersey State Council on the Arts through grant funds administered by the Bergen County Division of Cultural and Historic Affairs. Additional support is provided by Emmanuel Baptist Church, the Frank & Lydia Bergen Foundation, the Puffin Foundation, the Verizon Foundation, Columbia Savings Bank, Lillian P. Schenck Fund, Target, Shop Rite of Hackensack, and over 150 members of Friends of All Seasons.
