Emmanuel asks... Can You Help?
Our hat’s off to: The first graders at St Elizabeth’s school for their recent fundraiser and food collection. Way to go! This family needs help: Eight year-old daughter Alison was diagnosed with cancer this past spring. Alison’s sisters Kristin, aged 6 and Caitlyn, aged 4 have noticed all of the changes. The family doesn’t do anything special (like go out to the movies or go do things ) or buy anything other than food. Their parents are irritable and overwhelmed and the atmosphere has been tense. More than once they have heard their 4-29-09 karen/janine mother crying in the bathroom. This is a EmmanuelHelp3x.75(4-29-09) newly referred family. The caseworker has visited them several times to assess the sit3 x .75 uation and provide counseling and practical advice and things seem calmer and happier. Our volunteers) brought bags of food and dropped off some gift certificates for a visit to the ice cream shop! A small emergency grant paid the unpaid rent and fuel bill. We are able to make a difference with families like Alison’s with your contribution to the Family Financial Assistance Program. With your contribution of food and financial giving we can meet the many unmet needs of these people who might even be neighbors of yours. We have not been able to meet every need of the many families at this time. Please consider helping. Another big need: Anyone who has a lead on a good, free copier machine so we can replace our aging one. Save our van: A few years back, we were able to acquire a van due to the generosity of a local church. Since then we have made countless deliveries of groceries and other items to families. Now we need your help to keep the van in operation (maintenance, licensing, gas and oil). If you want to help by contributing or by organizing a
fundraiser, please let us know. New event date: Please attend our Wine & Art Night in Franklin Lakes at the Endless Vine on (revised date) Tuesday, June 29th from 7 to 9 PM. Suggested donation is $40, and this event will sell out quickly. May is Mother’s Day Month. Why not consider hosting an informal tea fundraiser in your home. This event honors ECF moms who shoulder quite a large load. The family Stroll-a-Thon is scheduled for Saturday, June 26th in Franklin Lakes, NJ starting at 9:00 AM. Call us for details and to reserve your tickets to any of these fundraisers. TO HELP: The following times for office volunteering are available: Tuesday,

For the troops
The Highland and Godwin Schools’ Kindness Committee sponsored a fundraiser for Lt. William Yang’s Unit stationed overseas. Lt. Yang is the brother of Kara Yang, a teacher at Godwin School for the Hearing Impaired Program. Each class was asked to bring in a different item ranging from foot powder to Honey Nut Cheerios to rice cakes. The response from the school community was overwhelming. They collected approximately 570 items and shipped them in 47 boxes (over 500lbs). The Kindness Committee collected, boxed, and shipped the packages that the PTA generously paid for. As a school community, they were happy to support the troops. Pictured are Megan DeMarco, Sean Olson, Alexa Schaefer, Olivia Schaefer, Sydney Cieri, Olivia Carrea and Anthony Carrea.
