The cuts proposed by the township committee include: • A difference in the teachers’ salaries for new hires of $100,000, which township committee members believe can be saved because retired teachers in the highest salary ranges can be replaced by new teachers in lower salary ranges. • A cut of $21,000 in support services included the salaries of school principals and assistant principals. • A cut of $39,635 in purchased professional educational services, including outside training for Wyckoff K-8 teachers that takes these teachers out of the classroom. • An $80,000 reduction in appropriations for substitute Helpful Hints Helpful Hints from ome “Help keep your potted plants soil moist while on vacation by filling an empty one-liter bottle with water and push it upside down into the pot. The township committee, however, added $5,000 for the middle school track program, in part because many of the students who participate in that program are those not usually served by township-funded recreation programs. “The township committee is cognizant of those living on fixed incomes and those struggling with the economic downturn as well as the importance of a quality education,” the committee members said in a signed statement after last week’s meeting. “The reductions will not impact the thorough and efficient education...students deserve.” Pat Says... and runs until October 30th.
