Foundation hosts House Tour The Franklin Lakes Education Foundation is sponsoring its first House Tour, which will provide a look inside some of the borough’s most distinct homes. The tour will include a tranquil lake retreat, traditional and contemporary décor, a magnificently landscaped outdoor oasis, and one of the oldest historical homes in town. The event will not only showcase a magnificent array of homes that reflects the diversity of the community, but will also raise essential funds for the public schools. The foundation, which is comprised of 20 parent volunteers, is committed to enriching the quality of education in the kindergarten through eighth grade schools by granting resources for innovative programming that would not be possible within the limitations of the board of education’s budget. The foundation recently granted more than $250,000 in funding to the district’s four elementary and middle schools for specific projects, programming, and technology. (continued from page 11) by Ackerman’s Music in Phase 2. The facade of the building will be modified to reflect the church use and will contain a steeple, for which a height variance would be needed from the board of adjustment unless it is reconfigured. The church proposes to remove the overhead canopy and driveway islands used for the bank’s drive-thru operation and construct a small addition to the rear of the building and two small additions to either side of the front of the existing building, with the front yard setback remaining at 15.1 ft. The south side yard setback will be increased to 32.2 ft. once the drive-thru canopy is removed. The new facility will provide 36 parking spaces, where 35 are required: 27 for the church use based on 81 seats, and eight for the 1,260 sq. ft. retail area now occupied by Ackerman’s. The church proposes to renovate the interior of the building, construct the additions and modify the structure to accommodate its needs. The main level will have an auditorium with seating for 81 people. There will be a foyer, church office, a library/study/reading room and an area where books and literature can be sold. The lower level would be used for the Sunday School educational programs. New plantings will be installed, and the parking lot and drainage system will be refurbished. The proposed improved lot coverage will be 77.12 percent, where 75 percent is required. Present lot coverage is 76.88 percent.
