Olenchak of Midland Park, formerly of New York City and Scranton, Pennsylvania, died May 16. He was 92. Before retiring in 1981, he was a graphic artist for RCA of New York, New York for 15 years. He was a former member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3451, Pennsylvania, and a former parishioner of Sacred Heart RC Church in Scranton, Pennsylvania. He is survived by his children Carol Dressel of Wyckoff, and two grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. Arrangements were made by Vander Plaat Funeral Home in Wyckoff. Santorine came to the district before the high school opened in 1955 to set up the sports/physical education programs, retiring in 1984. He headed the football program for 23 years, and served as head baseball coach for 20 years and head basketball coach for ten. During his 29yer tenure, he garnered many prestigious state and county,

and the Midland Park Board of Education named the high school athletic field in his honor in 1988. Santorine is the third former educator to receive the honor; science teacher Jack Cogger and physical education teacher Jerry Thomas, both deceased, were the first inductees last year The award, spearheaded by Superintendent of Schools Dr. William Heebink, is made annually to no more than three former school employees who “have made significant contributions to the improvement of the Midland Park school system in their own special ways over at least a fiveyear period of employment. The selection from among eligible applicants is made by a committee of two board of education members and two administrators, past or present.
