McMahon The Franklin Lakes Board of Education elected a new president and vice president for the 2010-11 school year at its annual reorganization meeting. During the session, the school district’s new superintendent was formally appointed and introduced to the public. Kathie Schwartz, who has been a member of the board since 2008 and was the board’s vice president last year, was elected as the board’s new president; and Carolyn Reitz, who has been a board member since 2005, was named vice president. Schwartz replaces Carmen Monte, who did not seek reelection to the board this year for personal reasons. The new president received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Rutgers College in 1988 and an MBA in finance from NYU Stern School of Business in 1996. Her professional experience has been in accounting and finance, and she has spent more than 10 years in banking and finance, most recently as a managing director at Deutsche Bank. She resigned that position in 2002 to be a stay-at-home mom. Since that time, she has become more involved in the community. She has completed two years on the board of education. During her first year, she served on the Operations Committee, and the Community Relations Committee. In her second year, she served as the board’s vice president and chair of the Finance Committee and as a member of the Personnel, Community Relations, Policy, and Technology committees. She has also been the board’s Franklin Lakes Education Foundation representative. She belongs to the Franklin Lakes Newcomers & Neighbors Club and has been that group’s president for the past three years. She also volunteers to serve lunch at Oasis, a shelter for women and children in Paterson. Schwartz said she looks forward to assisting in a smooth transition to the district’s new superintendent, and she hopes the contract with the district’s teachers can be (continued on page 11) NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED LEADER IN CONTEMPORARY VARICOSE VEIN TREATMENT CHUBACKVEINCENTER A NEW STANDARD OF VEIN CARE 265 Ackerman Ave. Ridgewood, NJ 201-693-4330 WE’RE MOVING TO OUR NEW LOCATION!
