MPHS Marching Band holds Car Wash The Midland Park High School Marching Band will hold a free Car Wash on Saturday, May, 22 from 9 a.m. to noon at the high school, 250 Prospect Street. Donations will be accepted and appreciated. The funds will be used to help with the student costs for the upcoming marching band season that begins in the fall. Each year, the band competes in numerous competitions throughout the region and continues to be honored for its outstanding performances. The band has ranked in the top 10 of the New York State Field Band Conference for the past six seasons. Fire department plans Memorial Service The Midland Park Fire Department will hold its annual Memorial Service on Wednesday, May 26 at 7:30 p.m. in the firehouse on Witte Drive. The public is invited to attend. Library trustees meet The Board of Trustees of the Midland Park Memorial Library will meet on Wednesday, May 19 at 7:30 p.m. at the library located at 250 Godwin Avenue, Midland Park. Meetings are open to the public. Olympic Day coming up Olympic Day, sponsored by Midland Park Department of Recreation, will take place June 5 at the Midland Park High
School track. Children ages five through 12 may choose from four different track and field events. The day will begin with a ceremonial passing of the torch starting at 9 a.m. followed by an award ceremony at 11 a.m. All participants will receive a free Tshirt the morning of the event. Honorees sought for Community Night The Midland Park Knights of Columbus is seeking nominations of Midland Park citizens for its Community Night recognition program. The Knights are looking for one outstanding adult from Midland Park, one from the Church of the Nativity community, an outstanding Midland Park youth, and a nominee for the Outstanding Neighbor Award. Nominations can be made by contacting Ken Gubala, (201) 310-9919 by May 25. Community Night will be held June 9 at 7:30 p.m. During this event, the Knights will distribute donations to various local charities, present several student scholarships, and recognize outstanding teachers and individuals who are active in the community. The public is welcome to attend. Artist presentation offered at library The Friends of the Midland Park Memorial Library host artist Jean-Claude Marchionni on Wednesday, June 9, at 11 a.m. This designer, stone carver, and sculptor has extensive experience in architectural, ornamental, and restoration work, which can be seen on the Strasbourg Cathedral and on the Musee du Louvre in Paris, and
on the Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church, Grand Central Station, and Rockefeller Center. He also produced new work for the Jewish Museum Extension in New York City and the Huffington Library in Ohio. Marchionni was inducted as an Honorary Regent and Artist in Residence at the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine for his Portal project the cathedral. This presentation will showcase some of his pieces of stonework and a slide show of the artist’s many achievements. The program is free and open to the public. that the DePhillips Community Center is open year-round for recreational activities Monday through Thursday between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Monday through Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Activities include pickup basketball, volleyball, ping pong, air hockey, and board games are available for use. The new outdoor basketball courts are now open. Jackals tickets on sale The Midland Park U10 Travel Baseball team recently announced its June 5 fundraiser, which will be held at Yogi Berra Stadium in Upper Montclair. The New Jersey Jackals will play the Brockton Rox. Tickets are $28 for adults and $18 for children. Included with admission to the game will be fireworks and an all-you-can-eat picnic.
