Republicans plan meeting The Wyckoff Republican League will meet at 7 p.m. on May 26. at the Larkin House, 380 Godwin Avenue. Anyone interested is invited to attend. The group will discuss 2010 events. The group meets on the fourth Wednesday of the month. The league’s mission is to foster Republican ideals and present to the community those candidates from the Republican Party running for elected office in Wyckoff, Bergen County, and the State of New Jersey. Summer rates for students The Wyckoff Family YMCA is offering graduating high school seniors and current college students a special college membership for the summer months. Students may choose a two-, three- or four-month membership, which includes use of the fitness center, gymnasium, aquatics facility, and fitness classes. Register for Camp Wydaca The Wyckoff Family YMCA, 691 Wyckoff Avenue in Wyckoff, is currently accepting registrations for Camp Wydaca, the summer day camp program, which runs from June 21 through Aug. 27. Camp Wydaca, which has operated for over 60 years, offers programs for all ages, including Wee Wydaca for three- and four-year-old campers, a traditional camp for students in kindergarten through grade five, teen camps, and over 25 specialty camps. Kindergarteners may enjoy new camps such as Kinder Cooking, Kinder Dance, Kinder Keyboard, and Kinder Sports. New specialty camps for older children include: golf, martial arts, softball, track and field, volleyball for girls, wrestling, floor hockey, basketball, competitive swim, soccer, and gymnastics. Wydaca offers Camp Masterpiece, Comic Book Capers, Culinary Camp, Kreative Kids, Dance Camp, and Summer Stock. All campers enjoy instructional and free swim in the Y’s Spring Lake, recreational sports and games, art, free choice time, special event days, and exciting camp trips. A nutritious lunch program is also available. The camp day is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and extended care is available from 7:30 a.m. in the morning and until 6 p.m. in the evening. James & Korney to discuss Social Security The Wyckoff Chamber of Commerce will host Aiesha James and Patricia Korney from the Social Security Administration on Thursday, May 20 at the Larkin House, 380 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff. James and Korney will give an overview of Social Security, including eligibility, retirement, survivors, disability, Medicare, and online services. Garden Club plans excursion The Wyckoff Area Garden Club will host a bus trip to The Grounds for Sculpture and local nursery, on May 25. The Grounds for Sculpture is a stunning public sculpture park and arboretum located in Hamilton. Founded in 1992, the grounds contain more than 240 works set in 35 acres of park land. Visitors may also enjoy several restaurants, cafés, a shop, and a gallery. The group will also make a stop at The Farm at Green Village near Morristown. A special discount will be offered to those on the tour. The bus will leave the parking lot at Wyckoff Fire Company #1, across from the library on Woodland Avenue, at 8:30 a.m. and will return at approximately 5 p.m. The cost is $35 per person. Siegel wins music scholarship
Vocalist Katherine Siegel of Wyckoff has received the first place $2,500 Pop Music Scholarship award from the Roy Meyer Swinger Jazz Vocal Group. The 17-year-old Bergen County Academies (Music Academy) senior sang her way to the top spot among the nine finalists selected from talented student applicants from 80 public and private high schools in Bergen and Passaic counties. The first runner-up certificate was presented to 18 year-old vocalist Andrew Gomes, a junior at Glen Rock High School. Kyle Kubicki of Northern Valley Regional High School took third place.
