Letters to the Editor
(continued from previous page) Dear Editor: The Republican voters of Wyckoff have an important choice in the June primary as to who will represent them in the general election in November. These are challenging times. The township is facing large development projects in ShopRite and the Christian Health Care Center. Years of fiscal irresponsibility at the state level have put undue strain and unfunded mandates on our township. It is time for real leadership. It is time for hard decisions to be made. I have started making these decisions but I have more work to do for the town that we love. These are complex issues that will affect each and every one of us. Residents will be affected by tax rates, children will be affected by their school programs, and we will all be affected by the look and feel of our beautiful town. We cannot take a risk on an inexperienced candidate and hope for the best. My 20 years of experience on the zoning board will ensure that our land use boards maintain the character and charming small town atmosphere we all love. My 22 years of experience on the boards of education will help guide the current BOE in this time of fiscal challenge to meet the needs of our children. My fellow citizens, after managing the numerous challenges during my first term on the township committee and witnessing the strength of this great community, I am now more than ever committed to Wyckoff. As a lifelong resident with a wide breath of experience across many diverse areas, I believe I am the right choice for Wyckoff in the June Republican primary and (in the November) general election. I am asking for your support and to join me in making Wyckoff even a better place tomorrow than it is today. Rudolf “Rudy” Boonstra Wyckoff Dear Editor: In my perspective I think poverty is when people can’t afford a house, can’t support their family, and they can’t support themselves. For my poverty class in school I am building shelves and cabinets for the New Hope Community Services in Paterson. Eastern Christian Middle School is donating cabinets to the food pantry so they can store food on the shelves and then give food to those in need. I think that everyone should do something to help the needy. According to the organization Share Our Strength, 18.6 million American children receive food stamps. Poverty is an awful thing. Working for the food pantry or an organization that helps the needy is good because that means that you care about other people. Richard Van Harken, Grade 8 Eastern Christian Middle School Wyckoff Dear Editor: I am 65 years old and have never publicly endorsed a candidate. I have known Rudy Boonstra for over 50 years and Jeff Boucher for over 30 years. Both are good men. Both have had success in various fields. I have seen how both people work. I have been with both in social and business settings. When administrative talents, governmental knowledge, and overall ability to focus are considered, Rudy Boonstra is a superior candidate to Jeff Boucher. Under most circumstances, I could endorse Jeff as a candidate. In this specific case, there is a more qualified candidate: Rudy Boonstra. Ken Lont Wyckoff
