Page 12 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • May 12, 2010 Wyckoff Township celebrates Arbor Day with ribbon, 27 trees by John Koster The Wyckoff Shade Tree Commission and the Wyckoff Environmental Commission celebrated Arbor Day with a ribbon cutting and the planting of 27 trees, notably willows, around Zabriskie Pond to replace those destroyed by storms and stress. Arbor Day marked the beginning of the campaign to replace the willows at Zabriskie Pond. The three new willow trees were supplied by Nelson Lee of Landscape Works. The plantings also included 18 pear trees and six American hornbeams to beautify Wyckoff Avenue, described by Township Committeeman Kevin Rooney as “the front door of Wyckoff,” as well as Main Street, West Main Street, and Scott Plaza. The ribbon cutting recognized the planting of the trees and inaugurated the campaign to beautify Wyckoff. Wyckoff officials also unveiled the township’s Tree City USA designation with the installation of two signs. Wyckoff Shade Tree Commissioner Mark Borst and Environmental Commissioner Brian Bigler encouraged residents to plant trees in their own yards and start a family Arbor Day tradition. Left: Wyckoff Road Department Superintendent Scott Fisher, Township Committeeman Kevin Rooney, and Mayor Rudy Boonstra were among the volunteers who planted 27 trees at Zabriskie Pond and elsewhere in Wyckoff for Arbor Day.
