The Midland Park Board of Education last week officially appointed Dr. Marie Cirasella as the district’s new superintendent of schools to replace Dr. William Heebink, who is retiring in June. Dr. Cirasella’s contract will run from July 1, 2010 until June 30, 2014. Her first year’s salary will be $170,000. The board conducted its own search and selected Dr. Ciracella from a field of 20 candidates narrowed down to two finalists in early April, but had to wait until the reorganization meeting for the formal appoint-

ment. “I am looking forward to working with her,” commented board President Robert Schiffer. “She brings a varied background, and her curriculum experience will be a big plus to the district, since we no longer have a curriculum director,” he added. Dr. Cirasella has been the assistant superintendent of the Bloomfield School System in Essex County since 2006. A Woodland Park resident, Dr. Cirasella has a B.S. in communications and journalism from William Paterson University, master’s degrees in curriculum and instruction and in education administration from Caldwell College, and her Ed.D. in educational leadership management and policy from Seton Hall University.
Prior to being promoted to assistant superintendent in Bloomfield, Dr. Cirasella served as principal of Brookdale School for five years and had also taught fifth grade in Berkeley Heights.
Midland Park School Board Trustee Robert Schiffer was elected president during the board’s reorganization meeting last week. Trustee William Sullivan was elected vice-president.
