Trike-a-thon to benefit Saint Jude’s The Wyckoff Reformed Church Nursery School will host its first ever “Trike-A-Thon” to benefit Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 15 (rain date: May 22). Following a fun, week-long curriculum that teaches children about riding toy safety, students will have the chance to practice the rules they have learned as they bring their trikes and other riding toys to school for the Trike-A-Thon. Friends and family members may sponsor the student participants by donating $10, $20, or more. These donations will be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, which is working to save children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases. The Trike-A-Thon will be held in the church parking lot at 580 Wyckoff Avenue. For additional information, call (201) 847-1330. Membership Month begins at temple Temple Beth Rishon is hosting May Membership Month. During this membership initiative, the temple will hold Open Houses on May 16 at 10 a.m. with breakfast and on May 5 at 7 p.m. with coffee and dessert. Attendees can meet the clergy, president, congregants, and trustees and join a tour of the building. Information about preschool, religious school, youth group, spiritual High Holiday services, and adult programs will be available. Membership representatives will be available to answer questions. Blood Drive planned The Wyckoff Community Blood Drive will be sponsored by Fitness Together at 386 Franklin Avenue on Thursday, May 13 from 3:30 to 7 p.m. The drive is held in cooperation with Community Blood Services. To schedule an appointment, call (201) 251-3703. All types of blood are needed especially types O- and O+. Any healthy individual age 17 through 75 and weighing at least 110 pounds can donate blood. Donors should eat a moderate meal before donating and must bring identification showing signature. All donors receive a complimentary cholesterol screening with every blood donation. Roberts to exhibit at YMCA Franklin Lakes designer and artist Sydney Roberts will exhibit his giclees, (digital fine art) at the Wyckoff Family YMCA during the month of May. Included in the display will be Roberts’ signature piece, “The Great Falls of Paterson, New Jersey.” The Y is located at 691 Wyckoff Avenue. Call (201) 891-2081 for information. Mitzvah Day Walk set Temple Beth Rishon will host its 8th Annual Mitzvah Day Walk on Sunday, May 16 in support of Autism Speaks, the nation’s leading autism non-profit scientific research and advocacy organization and Reed Academy, a school for children on the autism spectrum, ages three through 21. The community is invited to join congregants to help raise funds and spread awareness on behalf of those individuals and families who are challenged by autism. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. at the temple. The two-mile walk, which will take place around the temple’s residential neighborhood, will start at 9:30 a.m. Dogs on leashes are welcome. Walkers are asked to bring their own water bottles, which can be filled with spring water at the temple. Participants are invited afterwards for a “cool down” brunch. Register for summer recreation Registration for the Wyckoff Recreation Summer Programs will be held on Saturday, May 8 from 9 to 11 a.m. and Monday, May 10 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Eisenhower School. This year’s summer programs include baseball, basketball, tennis, soccer, roller hockey, and cheerleading clinics. Registration materials can be picked up at the recreation office.
Registration materials will also be available for Bergen’s Best Soccer Camp, O’Hagan’s Sports Camps (football and basketball camps) and North Jersey Lacrosse Camp which will be holding sessions in Wyckoff during the summer. Men’s softball registration to begin Registration for men’s summer softball will take place on Saturday, May 8 from 9 to 11 a.m. and Monday, May 10 from 7 to 9 p.m. The league runs from mid-June through mid-August. Games are played on Sundays at 9 a.m. and Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. The program is open to adults age 30 and over who are Wyckoff residents and are interested in playing men’s slow pitch softball. Flag football offered Wyckoff children in kindergarten through second grade are invited to take part in the recreation department’s flag football program this September. Each grade level will practice separately. The program will run on Saturday afternoons at Community Park from mid- to late September through early to mid-November. Children are permitted to play K-2 flag football and soccer at the same time, the times do not conflict. Volunteer coaches are needed. Registration will take place on Saturday, May 8 from 9 to 11 a.m. and Monday, May 10 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Eisenhower School Cafeteria. The fee is $50. For information, call (201) 891-3350. Football and cheerleading registration set Registration for the Wyckoff Junior Football program will take place May 8 from 9 to 11 a.m. and May 10 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Eisenhower School Cafeteria. Registration is open to Wyckoff children who will be entering grades three through eight in the fall of 2010. Two identical walletsize pictures are required at the time of registration. All registrants, even those who participated last year, must bring a copy of their birth certificate. The fee for this program is $175. Call (201) 891-3350. Registration for football cheerleading will take place at the same time as football registration. Girls who will be entering grades five through eight in the fall are invited to register. Practices begin in August and the season runs through mid-November. The fee for this program is $70.
