Students learned about the local plants, trees, and animals at the arboretum and saw how the recycling process works at the local level. Club members worked hard to help bale two huge containers of plastic bottles. Hands-on help School board (continued from page 9) headed the board in 1998 and 1999. Schiffer has chaired the board’s finance committee for 19 of the 22 years he has been on the board and last year served as liaison to the continuing education program. “These are very challenging times for education, and I think that, given my finance background, I will be able to help tremendously in continuing to provide the quality education we’ve been providing,” the new board president said. Schiffer is the founder and managing director of Wasco Capital Services, an equipment leasing and financing company in Glen Rock. He is a former president of the Midland Park Board of Recreation, the Girls Softball League and the High School Boosters Association, and he co-founded the Midland Park Basketball Association. Sullivan, starting his fifth year on the board, has headed the board’s personnel, administrator negotiations, buildings and grounds, special recreation and public relations committees, and served as liaison to the town’s board of recreation and the MPHS Athletic Boosters. He is vice president of sales at Unimac Graphics in Carlstadt, a commercial printing company. He is treasurer of the MPHS Boosters Association, a former president, vice president and treasurer of the Midland Park Baseball Association, and has coached baseball, basketball and soccer for the town recreation program and Nativity CYO.
