(continued from page 3) “Franklin Lakes, like many municipalities all our the country, is facing difficult financial times. The primary focus for years to come will be to restore our financial strength through prudent controls on appropriations while delivering essential services to our taxpayers and residents. Diligent expense control, capping and ultimately reducing our outstanding debt levels will gives us long term flexibility. I also hope to bring a cooperative spirit where the mayor, council, borough professionals, and employees can work collaboratively to best serve our residents.” Lota graduated the University of South Carolina in 1987 with a bachelor’s degree in biology and a minor in chemistry. While studying at USC, she played on the golf team for four years. Upon graduation, she attended the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, New Jersey Dental School and graduated in 1991 with her doctoral degree. She subsequently entered a one-year general practice residency at Saint Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Paterson.

After completing her residency, she was asked to stay on at the hospital where she treated the employees and their families and served the indigent population of Paterson. She is a lifetime resident of Bergen County and has two children. One of her children is a freshman at Immaculate Heart Academy and the other is in the seventh grade at the Academy of the Most Blessed Sacrament, where Lota has served as president of the Home-Academy Partnership and on the parish-school advisory board. “I am very pleased to represent a united Republican Club in this year’s election for Council,” Lota said after the meeting. “I am in full support of Frank Bivona and thank the club for their nomination and support.” Pedone is a current elected member of the Republican County Committee. He was president of the borough’s Republican Club in 2006 and has been an officer of that club from 2007 to the present. He has lived in the borough since 1999. Until he retired this year, he was president and chief executive officer of Infotech Systems, a company that deals with computer retrieval. Prior to that, he operated Pedone Associates, an executive search firm he created. He has also been vice president of listed trading for Lumbard Nelson and a
research analyst for Donaldson & Generette. A past president of the North Jersey Council of the Boy Scouts, he is also a past trustee of the Pace University Humanics Program. He has served as a member of the New York City Mayor’s Committee on Youth. Pedone praised his running mates, saying, “We’re a team that has one goal in mind, and that is to make Franklin Lakes a better place to live.” The deadline for filing nominating petitions to seek election to either the position of mayor or the borough council is April 12. All nominating petitions must be filed with the borough clerk by 4 p.m. that day.
