The band and strings students from Woodside Avenue, Colonial Road, and High Mountain Road schools will perform under the direction of Cindy Bradley and James Finnen. This event will also feature a special performance from the Franklin Lakes Senior Chorus. Breakfast will be provided by the local PTAs and served by the Franklin Avenue Middle School Peer Leadership Corps. Audience members will be served breakfast at 9:30 a.m. and the performance will begin at 10 a.m. Troop goes ‘Scouting for Food’ Franklin Lakes Troop 34 Boy Scouts will be accepting food donations through March 27. Items should be non-perishable foods (canned or dried packet food), toiletries, and baby items such as food, formula, and diapers. Donations may be dropped off at the back parking lot of the Franklin Lakes United Methodist Church, 454 Pulis Avenue, from 9 to 11 a.m. on March 27. Autobiography Workshops planned Registration is now open for the spring trimester of Autobiography Workshops held at the Presbyterian Church at Franklin Lakes, 730 Franklin Lake Road. Janice Rubin, award-winning journalist, and author of “Looking Back, Moving On: Memoir as Prologue and Four Lives Despite the Odds,” will lead eight-week program. Sessions will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. beginning April 6 and 8. The fee is $96 and includes tuition and materials. Regis- tration is limited. Fleming to discuss Founding Fathers Author and historian Thomas Fleming will speak about his new book, “The Intimate Lives of the Founding Fathers,” at the Friends of the Franklin Lakes Library’s April 21 Author Luncheon. The program will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Indian Trail Club, 830 Franklin Lake Road. Fleming will offer an intimate look at Washington, Franklin, Adams, Jefferson, Hamilton, Madison, and the women who played scandalous roles in their lives. Tickets are $60 and include the book signing, lunch, and prizes. Easter Bunny to visit The Franklin Lakes Recreation and Parks Department invites residents to visit with the Easter Bunny on Saturday, March 27 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Franklin Lakes Recreation Center, 1 Vichiconti Way. Parents are encouraged to bring their cameras. Light refreshments will be served. Blood Drive set The Franklin Lakes Education Foundation will host its Community Blood Drive in conjunction with Community Blood Services on Tuesday, March 23 from 3:45 to 7 p.m. at Franklin Lakes Middle School, 755 Franklin Avenue. To schedule an appointment, call (201) 251-3703. All types of blood are needed especially types O- and O+. Any healthy individual age 17 through 75 and weighing at least 110 pounds can donate blood. Donors should eat a moderate meal before donating and must bring identification showing signature. All donors receive a complimentary cholesterol screening with every blood donation. Writers’ group forming The Franklin Lakes Public Library’s Adult Writers’ Group will hold its first meeting in the Local His- tory Room of the library on Wednesday, March 24 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Meetings are open to the public and will be facilitated by Ron Rizio and moderated by Ann Marie Miller. Submissions must be sent via e-mail to Ron Rizio at ronrizio@yahoo.com before the meeting. The group will convene on the fourth Wednesday of each month. Teen poets, lyricists wanted The Teen Poetry Contest sponsored by the Franklin Lakes Library will be held as part of National Library Week 2010. Teens in grades seven through 12 who live in the Franklin Lakes area or attend school there, are invited to submit a contest entry form along with an original poems or song lyrics. Entries should be no more than 250 words. Entries must be submitted to Franklin Lakes Library or directly to kate_thelibrarian.yahoo.com. Information from the contest entry form must be included with submission. No entries will be accepted after Monday, April 5. Contest winners will be announced during National Library Week (April 11-17). First prize is a $50 American Express gift card; second and third prizes are $25 Barnes and Noble gift cards.
