Township earns Silver Award for safety record
by John Koster The Bergen County Joint Insurance Fund recently advised Wyckoff that the township’s excellent safety record has earned the JIF Silver Award. The township has been recognized for its very low lost-time frequency rate and for 100 percent cooperation in JIF’s 2009 Safety Incentive Program. Wyckoff also received JIF’s Most Consistent Safety Performance in the Bergen County JIF for a municipality with 50 or more employees. This is the 17th consecutive year that Wyckoff has won an award from JIF. The township received a dividend for 2009 year from the Bergen County JIF based on the performance to be used against insurance costs in 2010. “The township committee is proud of Township Administrator Bob Shannon and his fellow workers,” said Mayor Rudy Boonstra. “The little everyday things they do add tremendous value for the taxpayers of Wyckoff. For example, the (Wyckoff Department of Public Works) crews are very cognizant of safety and it is reflected in their daily work functions. Safety seminars are conducted to implement work skills for employee safety as well as to limit insurance costs to the taxpayers.” The Wyckoff Safety Committee consists of Township Administrator Shannon, Police Chief Benjamin Fox, Fire Chief David Murphy, part-time administrative assistant Frances Piscadlo, Chief Financial Officer Diane McLeod, Municipal Clerk Joyce Santimauro, Court Administrator Paulette Scandone, Recreation Director Andy Wingfield, Construction Code Official Thomas Gensheimer, Public Works Manager Scott Fisher, Tax Assessor Susan Stevenson, Township Engineer Mark DiGennaro, and Janet Healey of the Wyckoff Ambulance Corps. The department heads and other members keep their workers regularly briefed about safety precautions to prevent on-the-job injuries. The Bergen County Joint Insurance Fund is the oldest municipal joint insurance fund in the state and currently has 38 members.
