Page 4 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • March 10, 2010 FLOW Area Candidates will compete for seats on regional board by Frank J. McMahon Four candidates have filed nominating petitions to seek election to the Ramapo Indian Hills Board of Education. There is one open Franklin Lakes seat on the board, and Franklin Lakes resident Wayne Peterson, who is currently the board’s president, is the only candidate for that seat. However, there are two open Wyckoff seats, and three candidates from the township have filed for election. Incumbent trustee Lynn L. Budd is seeking reelection to her seat on the board, while James Hogan decided not to seek reelection. Wyckoff residents Thomas F. Bunting and Sabaudin “Sab” Skenderi have filed for the open seat. There were no open Oakland seats on the regional school board this year. A resident of Franklin Lakes for over 21 years Peterson is married and the father of three children, all of whom graduated from the schools in the regional district. He has a BA in mathematics and economics from Cornell University and a BA in finance and statistics from the University of Chicago. After completing a 20-year career at Morgan Stanley in 2003 as President of Morgan Stanley Commodities Management Inc., he served as a consultant to Morgan Stanley, training employees with a 30-hour course on commodities. Peterson has served on the Policy, Finance and Personnel/Goals/Evaluation committees and as the board’s liaison to the Borough of Franklin Lakes. Budd was appointed to the board in July 2009 to fill the unexpired term of former trustee Kathy Scarpelli. The candidate’s professional experience in education is primarily on the college level. She served as assistant dean of students at Fordham University, where she taught undergraduate English courses at Fordham College and at the School of General Studies. She also taught as an adjunct at the College of New Rochelle. She completed her Masters and Ph.D. degrees in English and comparative Renaissance literature at Fordham. She was director of the campus center and foreign student advisor on both campuses. After moving to Wyckoff, she worked for IBM, primarily in human resources, executive development, strategic planning, and compensation. Her two children graduated from the Sicomac and Eisenhower schools in Wyckoff. Her son went on to Dwight Englewood High School, and her daughter graduated from Ramapo High School, where she was a National Merit Finalist and editor-in-chief of “Rampage.” Budd and her family are members of Saint Elizabeth’s Church. She taught Confraternity of Christian Doctrine there when her children were in elementary and middle school. Bunting grew up in Haledon and graduated from Manchester Regional High School. He has been a resident of Wyckoff since 1996 when he graduated from Susguehanna University with a BS in finance. He has worked in the insurance industry for 23 years and is currently managing an investigative unit for an insurance company. Bunting has three children, one of whom graduated from Ramapo High School and currently attends Penn. State. Another is a junior at Ramapo and the third child is in the eighth grade at Eisenhower Middle School in Wyckoff. Active in the township’s recreation programs for years Bunting has been a football coach for 10 years and has been the township’s travel basketball director for the last four years. Skenderi received a master of public administration degree in 2004 from Rutgers University. His academic courses in that program included public financial management, theory & practice in non-profit management, political economy and public administration, human resources administration, management techniques, ethical issues in public administration and research design. He was awarded membership in Pi Alpha Alpha and the National Honor Society for outstanding academic achievements. Skenderi received a certificate of advanced professional training in public administration from Rutgers University in 2003, an MA in political science from Rutgers University in 2002, and a BA in political science from Montclair State University in 1999. In 2003, he was a customer service representative in advertising. From 2004 to 2007, he marketed food products and worked with distributors taking care of inventory and confirming orders and advertising products to vendors. In 2006, he was employed part time at New Age Financial Solutions where he restored credit and facilitated mortgage transactions. Skenderi sought a seat on the regional school board in 2007 but was unsuccessful in that election. At the April 20 school board election, registered voters will also have the opportunity to vote on the school district’s budget for 2010-11. A public hearing on that budget is scheduled for March 31 at 8 p.m. at Ramapo High School in Franklin Lakes. ECONOMY GOT YOU DOWN? Don’t let it keep your vehicle down!
