March 10, 2010 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • Page 25 Park Windmill Auxiliary hosts ‘A Woman’s Heart’ Patricia Delaney, R.N., A.A.S., director of cardiac outreach services at the Center for Women’s Heart Health at Valley Hospital, will present a program entitled “A Woman’s Heart” at the next meeting of the Midland Park Branch of the Valley Hospital Auxiliary on Wednesday, March 24 at 10 a.m. at Faith Reformed Church, 95 Prospect Street, Midland Park. (The program was rescheduled from the February meeting due to the weather.) Delaney’s presentation will include facts about women and heart disease. She will also provide information about the free heart health assessment available to every woman at Valley Hospital. The auxiliary invites all members of the community to attend this free event. Spaghetti Supper planned The Midland Park United Methodist Church will hold a Spaghetti Supper on Saturday, March 20 from 5 to 7 p.m. The cost is $8 per person, $3 for children. Children under age three will be admitted free of charge. Dinner will include spaghetti, meatballs, salad, bread, and dessert. The church is located at 269 Godwin Avenue. Summer Camp information available An Open House for Summer Camp will behled March 13 from noon to 2 p.m. at the DePhillips Community Center, 50 Dairy Street. The event will allow parents of firsttime campers to become familiar with the program. Meet the director and staff members, see the facility, and learn about camp activities. The Midland Park Recreation Department will begin accepting registration for camp on March 26. Forms are available at mpnj.com, and at the DePhillips Community Center and borough hall. Camp is for children entering grades one through eight and runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 28 to Aug. 6. The cost per week is $65 for the first child, $50 for the second child, and $40 for the third with a maximum of $155 a week per family. Space is limited; early registration is advised. Attention: Lori Dent. Special needs program offered Registration for the Midland Park Recreation’s Me & My Shadow program has begun. This small group program is for children in grades two through six and is directed by Lori Dent and assisted by adult and teen volunteers. It is designed to meet the unique needs and abilities of special needs children through non-competitive games, music, and arts-and-crafts. Classes meet on Saturdays from 10 to 11 a.m. from April 10 through May 1 at the DePhillips Community Center, 50 Dairy Street. The registration fee is $20 per child with a max- imum of $25 per family. Fish and Chips Dinner set Trinity Episcopal Church (formerly Church of the Good Shepherd) will hold a Fish and Chips Dinner on Friday, March 19 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Midland Park Firehouse on Witte Drive. The dinner, by Tastefully British, will include fish, french fries, coleslaw, beverage, and dessert. There will be continuous serving and takeout orders are welcome. Children’s tennis program planned Midland Park Recreation is offering a four-week tennis program for children in kindergarten through grade two on Saturdays, April 24 through May 15 at the Dairy Street Tennis Courts. Forty-five minute clinics are offered at noon, 1, and 2 p.m. The cost is $40 per child, with a $70 maximum per family. Space is limited; early registration is encouraged. Landscape design program offered Mark Milidantri, a landscape design consultant, will present “Principles of Landscape Design” at the Midland Park Memorial Library, 250 Godwin Avenue, on March 25. The program will be held from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. The recipient of national and New Jersey landscape awards, Milidantri will discuss landscapes of the past and future, elements that make up today’s landscapes, and other topics. Local author reads at library Local author Carolyn MacDonald will read to children (ages five to 10) from her book “Jupiter, the 3-legged Dragon.” This program will be held at the Midland Park Library on Tuesday, March 30 at 7 p.m. MacDonald will outline the process of creating a book for the audience. Senior Laura Mallalieu has been named a National Merit Scholarship finalist. This honor goes to less than one percent of the 160,000 students who take part in the program each year. French students Jeremy Cope and Matthew Dugan received national honors in the Why Take French? Essay Contest conducted by the American Association of teachers of French during National French week. Both boys finished in the third place group of entrants. Mel Lewis set a new Midland Park indoor track record in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 8.6 seconds in competition at Rockland Community College. Fifth grader William Krag was the winner of the Highland School National Geography Bee contest. Fifth grader Christopher Weisbrot finished in second place. Katie Pope and Sarah Mellish were named to the All League First Team in girls’ tennis. Midland Park High School student Julie Wollner was selected for a Judge’s Choice Award and earned honorable mention in painting at the William Paterson Art Show. Meredith Outslay, Danielle Havlicek, and Danielle Koukos were named to the All League First Team in volleyball. Golf benefit announced The Midland Park Fire Department will host its second Charity Golf Outing at the Black Bear Golf Club in Franklin on Monday, May 10. Breakfast will be at 8 a.m. followed by a 9 a.m. tee time. The cost is $125 per player or $500 for a foursome, which includes continental breakfast, cart, 19th hole cash bar, and awards lunch. Blue Jean Ball tickets on sale Tickets for the 2010 Spring Fling Blue Jean Ball are now available. This Midland Park Public Education Foundation fundraiser is scheduled for Saturday, March 13 from 7 to 11 p.m. at Saint Nicholas Church in Wyckoff. The evening will include live music by The Embracers and DJ entertainment. All proceeds from the 2010 Spring Fling Blue Jean Ball will fund the “Access to All” grant. The cost of Phase I of this grant is approximately $70,000 and will enable Midland Park schools to purchase the technological equipment necessary to bring the schools on par with others in the area. The Midland Park Public Education Foundation is an all-volunteer, not-for-profit foundation that funds new curriculum initiatives and enrichment opportunities in Midland Park’s public schools. Computer courses offered The Computer Learning Center at the Northwest Bergen Regional Senior Center is offering computer courses for seniors. These courses range from three to eight weeks in length and meet for 90-minute sessions. Courses are open to all area senior citizens age 60 and up and are designed for mature learners.
