The program will highlight several notable businesswomen in history and intertwine their stories with a glimpse at the times in which they lived by blending women’s history with the history of fashion. The Rutgers Cooperative Extension 4-H Youth Development program uses a learn-by-doing approach to enable youth to develop the knowledge, attitudes, and skills they need to become competent, caring, and contributing citizens. This mission is accomplished by using the knowledge and resources of the land-grant university system, along with the involvement of caring adults. ‘Cinderella’ to be presented Rodgers and Hammerstein’s classic, “Cinderella,” is coming to Eastern Christian High School, 50 Oakwood Avenue, North Haledon. Produced by the Eastern Christian High School Drama Department, “Cinderella” will be offered on March 10 and 11 at 4 p.m., and March 12 and 13 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $8 and are available by calling the school office at (973) 427-0900. Networking event planned The Mahwah Regional Chamber of Commerce will hold a business card exchange for members and non-members on Wednesday, March 10, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Ramsey Golf and Country Club, 105 Lakeside Drive, Ramsey. Attendees will include members from the Waldwick, Wyckoff, and Franklin Lakes chambers. This evening is being hosted by the Ramsey Golf and Country Club. Stop by for great networking and refreshments. A cash bar will also be available. The cost for Chamber members is $20; $35 for nonmembers. Parent seminar offered The Gifted Child Society is offering a seminar on “Anxiety and the Gifted Child: How Parents Can Help Their Children Cope” on Tuesday, March 16 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Gifted Child Society, 190 Rock Road, Glen Rock. The speaker will be Dr. Amanda Klein, school psychologist, cognitive behavioral therapist, and administrator of psychological evaluations. Some level of anxiety is normal and keeps children motivated to achieve. For gifted children, anxiety may often be intense due to their perfectionist tendencies. This workshop will help parents identify when their child is experiencing too much anxiety by examining its frequency, intensity, and duration. A step-by-step guide that includes breathing, progressive relaxation, and cognitive restructuring will be introduced and discussed. The evening seminar is open to all. Pre-registration is required. RBARI holds fundraiser The Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge, Inc will hold a gift and craft sale at the Copper Tree Mall, 350 Ramapo Valley Emmanuel Baptist Church, located at the corner of East Ridgewood Avenue and Hope Street in Ridgewood, hosted a Blood Drive through the Red Cross as part of the church’s mission emphasis during Lent. Donors shared the life-giving gift of blood from the congregation and from the Holmstead School student and teacher body, which leases space in the church’s building. Donors from the community also came forward. The Red Cross volunteers were extremely pleased with the number of donors which exceeded that which they get at most other drives. The Men’s Fellowship from the church hosted a Pancake Supper for donors and church members during the evening drive. Pictured are Martin Massler, church member and the phlebotomist from the drive. Wyckoff Y offers scholarship This year, the Wyckoff Family YMCA is “Celebrating ‘Green’ Students.” In conjunction with its annual “Friends of the Y Dinner,” the Wyckoff Family YMCA will be offering its $1,000 Roger E. Clarke Scholarship to a deserving high school senior who has made a commitment to beautifying the community through preservation, environmental projects and awareness, or recycling initiatives. The Y is seeking students who have creatively developed a system or program that is environmentally sound; have completed a project preserving a natural or historic feature of our community; or have participated in organizations that help sustain our resources. The award will be presented at the Friends of the Y Dinner on Wednesday, April 28 at 6:30 p.m. at the Wyckoff Family YMCA. The winner will attend the dinner along with his or her parents as guests of the Y. Applicants are asked to submit a brief essay on their background, accomplishments, and goals for the future along with their name, address, phone, and e-mail with a brief explanation of why they should receive the Roger E. Clarke Scholarship. Two letters of recommendation are required. Deadline is April 7. Landscape gardening in Israel program offered The Bergen County Master Gardeners will host Daphne Boss Ayalon on March 23. This speaker will present a special program on “Project Landscaping: Israel” at 7:30 p.m. at One Bergen Plaza, County Place, Hackensack on the first floor. Israel is smaller than New Jersey, yet it is home to a larger population. It is a semi-arid country, where every drop of water is a luxury. Within this context, garden designers overcome adverse site conditions and define innovative methods to create abundant green spaces, from the monumental to the mundane.
