Parents of new students and children who have been attending private school who will be entering the Franklin Lakes schools this September are encouraged to register their children as soon as possible. Learn about edible herbs Jessica Agnello, a landscape and garden design consultant at Jacobsen Landscape Design and Construction, will present “Edible Herbs for Healthy Living” on Saturday, March 13, as part of the Franklin Lakes Health Fair at Franklin Avenue Middle School. As part of the event, a special demonstration on herb container planting will be led by Agnello at 11 a.m. The event is part of the Mayor’s Wellness Campaign, an initiative of the New Jersey League of Municipalities. Men’s baseball team seeks players The Northern Bergen County baseball team, the Cubs, is seeking players to try out for the spring season. The team is part of “A League of Our Own” and is for men age 40 and older. Catchers and possibly a pitching position may be open. Skin care to be discussed Dr. Elizabeth Roche will discuss skin care at The Woman’s Club of Franklin Lakes’ meeting on Monday, March 8 at 7 p.m. Dr. Roche will cover the care of aging skin that is also exposed to the environment. Fourth Annual Bryan’s Run set Bryan’s Dream Foundation will hold its fourth annual Bryan’s Run at the Academy of the Most Blessed Sacrament, 782 Franklin Lake Road, Franklin Lakes on Saturday, March 27. Bryan’s Run is a 5K run/walk for people of all ages. The 1K Fun Run is for children 12 and under. Bryan’s Run is sponsored by the Bryan’s Dream Foundation, organized in memory of Bryan Opremcak, who died at age 12 from Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM), one of the most aggressive types of brain tumors. Throughout his illness, he was a smart and talented young man who remained an inspiration to everyone who met him. His dream was for everyone to work toward brain tumor awareness, research, and support so that no child’s life ends prematurely. All entry fees from Bryan’s Run will go to Bryan’s Dream Foundation and support pediatric brain tumor awareness. Entry fees are $15 for the Kid’s Fun Run 1K only, and $20 for the 5K Run. HSUS presents ‘Understanding Beavers’ Laura Simon and Skip Hilliker of the Humane Society of the United States will visit Franklin Lakes Borough Hall, 480 DeKorte Drive, on Saturday, March 6 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. to give a presentation on understanding beavers and offer coping techniques. The discussion includes the ecology of beavers and how their unique engineering skills can create conflicts. Simon and Hilliker will discuss the “Beaver Baffler,” a simple device that can be used to stop the flooding caused by beaver dams. The presenters will also show how to properly wrap trees to prevent them from being felled.
