Midland Park June 16, 2010 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • Page 3 Fall feature: Three-way race for two council seats There will be a three way race in November for the two available seats on the Midland Park Borough Council. Former Councilman Kenneth Kruis filed as an independent by last Tuesday’s deadline, thus challenging incumbent council members Patrick “Bud” O’Hagan and Nancy Peet. No Democrats filed for the council positions. Kruis said he is running for council again to give people a choice at the ballot box. “It bothers me that people are running unopposed,” Kruis said. “I served with them (O’Hagan and Peet) in the past and I respect them both, but it is good to have fresh ideas more in touch with the young families in town,” he added. Kruis served one term on the council from 2006-08 and did not seek reelection. He said at that time he had a newborn daughter with health issues which have since stabilized. “I want to get back and be involved,” he said. He added that he is concerned about the recreation program and wants to make sure that funds to support it are not cut disproportionately. During his previous council term, Kruis ran as a Republican. He said this time he decided to run as an independent because he is not part of the Republican Party, even though he is Republican. Kruis is president of Air America Air Conditioning and Heating Company in Midland Park, which he founded in 1997. A graduate of Eastern Christian High School who has done additional studies in business and architectural drawing, he is a member of Cornerstone Christian Church in Wyckoff. He is former member of the Midland Park Board of Recreation and is active in youth sports organizations. O’Hagan is seeking his seventh term on the council. He is a Realtor with Terrie O’Connor Realtors, Allendale office. He is an active member and past president of the Midland Park Lions Club and served as chairman of the Midland Park Board of Adjustment for many years. He is (continued on page 28) Residents to get estimated tax bills The Borough of Midland Park is mailing estimated tax bills to all taxpayers this week to assure no cash flow problems develop. Actual 2010 tax bills cannot be mailed by the customary July 1 date because without state aid figures, the Bergen County Board of Taxation is unable to certify tax rates throughout Bergen County.
