Michael Saudino to address borough’s Republican Club Emerson Police Chief Michael Saudino, a candidate for Bergen County Sheriff, will address the Franklin Lakes Republican Club on Monday, June 21 at 7:45 p.m. at the Bender Court Ambulance Corps Building. Chief Saudino has served on the Emerson Police Department since 1973. In January of 2002, he was appointed chief of police. He currently serves as the president of the Bergen County Police Chiefs Association. All are invited to attend. The club meets on the third Monday of the month. Summer activities to begin Children in kindergarten through grade two are invited to start the summer at the Franklin Lakes Public Library by decorating a bucket hat, listening to hat stories, playing hat games, and eating a cone hat ice cream sundae. The craft and activity program for children in kindergarten through grade two will begin on Monday, June 28 at 2 p.m. Registration is required. Paws for Reading continues The Paws for Reading program at the Franklin Lakes Public Library will continue through the summer. Beginners and accomplished readers who will be entering grades one through six can make friends with well-behaved certified therapy dogs while polishing reading and public speaking skills. Children are invited to read to one of the dogs for ten-minute periods on Mondays, June 21, July 12 and 26, and Aug. 2 and 16 from 4 to 5 p.m. Registration is required and is now underway. Seniors plan fall trip The Franklin Lakes Seniors have planned a trip to Amishlands, Pennsylvania on Sept. 8, 9, and 10. The cost of the trip is $339 for double occupancy, and $419 for a single. Included in the price is transportation by deluxe coach, motel, two New York City-style shows, breakfasts, dinners, sightseeing, and more. A deposit of $75 is due June 16. For more information, contact Al Mangano, (973) 657-1868. Saturdays are ‘Tot Time’ The Franklin Lakes Public Library will be featuring the popular Tot-Time workshop Saturday mornings this summer. Children will enjoy a variety of activities, including stories, songs, finger plays, and a craft. Tot-Time is offered to children ages 30 months to five years. The program will be held July 17 through Aug. 7 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. The summer session is open to Franklin Lakes’ residents only. William Shakespeare comedy comes to library New Jersey’s Next Stage Ensemble will perform Shakespeare’s “As You Like It” at the Franklin Lakes Public Library on Wednesday, July 7 at 7 p.m. This pastoral romantic comedy is set in France and features one of Shakespeare’s most famous and oft-quoted speeches, “All the world’s a stage.” Reservations/tickets for this free event

Library board plans meeting The Franklin Lakes Board of Trustees will meet on Monday, June 21 at 6 p.m. in the Local History Room of the Franklin Lakes Public Library. Credit seminar offered to prospective homebuyers Weichert Realtors will host a free, noobligation seminar to help prospective buyers better understand the current real estate market. The event will be held on Thursday, June 17 at 7 p.m. at Weichert’s Franklin Lakes office, 799 Franklin Avenue. “Your Credit and How it Affects Your Ability to Buy Real Estate,” will include presentations from agents, a local real estate attorney and a home inspector. Attendees will learn about the impact of their credit score, the current state of the local housing market, and will get a walk-through of the real estate buying process. Schmidt named to Dean’s List Shayna Schmidt, daughter of Linda and Ronald Schmidt of Franklin Lakes, has been named to the Dean’s List at Hamilton College in Clinton, New York, for the 2010 spring semester. majoring in theater, is a graduate of Montclair Kimberley Academy.
